The new Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort was one of our favorite hotels during our recent 18-day trip to Portugal! After spending four nights in Porto, our family of four flew to Faro, picked up our rental car, and stayed here for two relaxing nights before continuing to Lagos for another three nights. It turned out to be the perfect introduction to the Algarve with its sunny pool, welcoming staff, and short walk to the beautiful Algarve beach.

Although the property itself has been around for years, this hotel recently reopened as Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort following an extensive renovation. Everything felt fresh, modern, and beautifully updated, and the exceptional service made an already wonderful stay even better.

If you’re considering booking the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve, my blog post today will share exactly what to expect and is filled with fresh photos that I took in June 2026!

Staying at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort in Portugal Review

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort Portugal

The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort is a newly renovated hotel located in the popular beach town of Vilamoura in Portugal’s Algarve region. While the property has welcomed guests for years, it just reopened in 2026 under the Hyatt Regency brand after an extensive renovation that transformed the guest rooms, restaurants, pools, and public spaces.

During our stay, everything felt fresh, modern, and beautifully designed. It felt like a new hotel, not just an update!

So, how did we end up there?

After spending the first four nights of our trip in Porto, we flew Ryanair to Faro, picked up our rental car, and drove about 30 minutes to the resort. We stayed from May 31 through June 2 in a One-Bedroom Regency Suite with Balcony & Hot Tub before continuing on to Lagos for the next three nights.

Since the hotel is so close to Faro Airport, it made the perfect first stop after our flight while still giving us plenty of time to relax before exploring more of the Algarve. Plus, as a Hyatt loyalist, I wanted to check this new hotel out for myself!

I booked it before it even opened, and it was a great value on Hyatt points.  It also allowed us to enjoy our Hyatt Globalist benefits, such as free breakfast, for a couple of days.

One of the biggest surprises of our stay at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve was the exceptional service. The welcome we received at check-in was one of the warmest I’ve ever experienced at a hotel.  And, they didn’t know we were travel bloggers either.  I booked this 100% on my own as a paying guest!

From the restaurant servers and front desk staff to every employee we encountered, everyone was genuinely friendly and eager to help. It was some of the best service we experienced anywhere in the world, and it’s easy to see why the hotel has earned so many outstanding guest reviews since reopening.

So, whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation, an easy family-friendly resort with plenty of activities, or a convenient place to use Hyatt points near Faro Airport, Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort is well worth considering.

In this post, I’ll share our experience, plenty of photos, and exactly what to expect so you can decide whether Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort is the right hotel for your Algarve vacation!

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Location

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve is located in Vilamoura, just outside Quarteira. Vilamoura is known for its upscale resorts, large marina, beautiful sandy beaches, beach clubs, and championship golf courses.

That said, in my opinion, this area doesn’t have the charming old-town atmosphere we found in Lagos, and the beaches here are flat and very different from the dramatic cliffs we saw on our Lagos coastal walk a few days later.

But I honestly appreciated having a couple of days where I didn’t feel pressure to leave the resort.  We had logged 20k steps a day in Porto, and I just wanted to relax for a couple of days.

A Great Base for Exploring Vilamoura

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve is only about a 30-minute drive from Faro Airport, making it an excellent first or last stop during an Algarve vacation if you are flying through there.

We picked up our rental car at the Faro airport and had no trouble finding the hotel and parking. We actually left our car parked most of the time because so much was within walking distance.

While you’re here, it’s an easy walk to the Vilamoura Marina, where you’ll find dozens of restaurants, shops, bars, and boat tours. Vilamoura is also one of Portugal’s top golf destinations, so it’s a great choice if someone in your group wants to spend a day on the course.

Walking to the Beach & Beach Clubs

One of our favorite things about Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve was how easy it was to walk to the beach. In about five minutes, we were on the wide sandy shoreline, where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas or simply enjoy a stroll along the beachfront promenade.

There are also several beach clubs within walking distance. One night, Matt and I had dinner at Água Qlub, which was quite a lively place!

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon by the water or a lively atmosphere with music, cocktails, and dinner, you’ll find plenty of options just a short walk from the resort.  But honestly, you don’t even need to leave the hotel if you don’t want to.

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Pools & Activities

One of my favorite things about Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort was that we never felt like we had to leave the property. After several busy sightseeing days in Porto, it was exactly what we needed.

Whether you want to spend the day lounging by the pool, let the kids enjoy the organized activities, or head out for a round of golf, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Swimming Pools

The main swimming pool was a great place to relax! There’s also a separate shallow children’s pool, making it a great option for families traveling with younger kids. And it even has a nice green grassy area adjacent to it for kids to run around or for families to spread out.

We spent an entire day enjoying the pool, ordering drinks and food from The Terrace Pool Bar, and simply slowing down after the first part of our vacation in Portugal. The Lume Lobby Bar also opens onto the pool area, making it easy to grab a coffee, cocktail, or snack throughout the day.

Family Activities

Families will find plenty to keep kids entertained without ever leaving the resort. In addition to the children’s pool and beautiful new playground, we saw staff leading organized activities throughout the day during our stay. It looked like the kids were having a great time, and parents could relax nearby while they participated!

The resort also features a small putting green, beach volleyball, and racket sports courts, along with plenty of open green space where children can run around.

For the adults, there was live music in the Lobby Bar one night, too!

Golf & Boating

Vilamoura is one of Portugal’s most popular golf destinations, with several championship courses just minutes from the resort. Even if not everyone in your group is interested in golf, this hotel makes it easy for one person to spend the morning on the course while everyone else enjoys the pools, beach, or nearby marina.

And since this hotel is close to a busy marina, it’s easy to book boat tours, including fishing trips, from here. So, a great place to stay if you want easy access to boating!

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve is a great choice for a wide variety of travelers, including golf trips, couples’ getaways, and family vacations. And, we saw all of those types of travelers during our stay!

Fitness Center & Resort Grounds

If you like to stay active while traveling, the hotel also features a small lower-level fitness center with a variety of equipment. Although I preferred to relax by the pool, Matt and Jake worked out during our stay!

The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve grounds themselves are beautifully landscaped with palm trees, outdoor seating areas, and even a small herb and vegetable garden that supplies the restaurants.

Combined with the bright, modern lobby and welcoming common areas, the entire property feels thoughtfully designed and beautifully maintained.  That said, it’s a small resort compared to some of the other resorts in the Algarve region, but it offers much more than just a standard hotel.

Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Rooms

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, golf trip, or family vacation, Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve offers a variety of fully renovated room categories to fit different travel needs.

Accommodations range from standard guest rooms to spacious suites, many with private balconies overlooking the resort or surrounding area. If you’re looking to splurge a little, several upgraded room categories even include private outdoor hot tubs, which we used both nights. It was such a great place to watch the sunset!

As a family of four, the suites immediately caught my eye.  They offer options that accommodate either four or five guests.  Rooms for a family of five are surprisingly difficult to find in Europe, making this hotel an excellent choice for larger families who don’t want to book two separate rooms.

King bedroom at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve

We booked the Regency Suite with Hot Tub using Hyatt points because it offered an excellent redemption value. Normally, we book two hotel rooms whenever possible since our teenagers aren’t thrilled about sharing a bed anymore.

We had spoiled them with that three-bedroom, three-bathroom rental in Porto, but for just two nights in Vilamoura, this suite was such a great value that they had to deal with it!

Every photo throughout this article was taken inside our Regency Suite with hot tub during our stay. While I can’t speak to every room category, I was extremely impressed by the thoughtful renovation and modern coastal design throughout the property.  Our room was on the top floor and even offered ocean views!

Judging by the photos, all of the rooms have similar decor, but you need to pay attention to which ones have balconies, hot tubs, separate bedrooms, and even multiple bathrooms if you want any of those specific setups.

For example, the standard Regency Suite (without a balcony or hot tub) even offers two full baths.  So, there really is a room type for many different needs!

Our Regency Suite with Hot Tub

Our family stayed in the Regency Suite with a Hot Tub, and it quickly became one of our favorite accommodations during our trip to Portugal. The spacious suite featured a separate king bedroom and living room with a sofa bed, giving everyone ample room to spread out after long days of sightseeing.

They did have the sofa bed already set up when we arrived, so I don’t have photos of it setup as a living room. But there are plenty on their website!

One of my favorite features was the oversized balcony, which could be accessed from both the bedroom and the living room. It included comfortable outdoor seating and a private hot tub, making it the perfect place to relax in the evenings or enjoy a quiet morning before heading down to breakfast.

Inside, the suite felt bright, open, and beautifully designed. The large bathroom included a soaking tub and a walk-in shower, along with a second, separate vanity area with the toilet, accessible from the living room.

There was also a mini refrigerator, plenty of storage space, and thoughtful finishes throughout.

For our family of four, the layout worked out great. Having a separate bedroom, living room, and generous outdoor space made the suite feel much larger than a traditional hotel room and gave us plenty of room to relax between adventures around the Algarve.

I would absolutely book this suite at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura again!

That said, if we were staying longer, I might even have booked just this suite for Matt and me and gotten the kids a standard room with two beds. The room rates were very reasonable in this area!

Dining at Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve

The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve has three main on-site dining options: Brasa Coastal Steakhouse, Lume Lobby Lounge, and the Terrace Pool Bar. We ate breakfast twice, one dinner, and grabbed drinks and lunch by the pool one day.

Breakfast

One of our favorite parts of staying at Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve was breakfast each morning. As Hyatt Globalists, we had breakfast included with our stay, and it was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had at a Hyatt Regency.

The large breakfast buffet featured a wonderful variety of fresh fruit, pastries, breads, cheeses, hot breakfast favorites, juices, coffee, and made-to-order options. Whether you wanted a light breakfast before heading to the beach or a hearty meal to fuel a day of exploring, there was something for everyone.

If breakfast isn’t included with your room rate, it might be worth adding. The quality was excellent, and it was an easy way to start each morning!

Dinner at Brasa Coastal Steakhouse

Brasa Coastal Steakhouse serves breakfast each morning before transforming into the hotel’s signature restaurant in the evening. The menu focuses on premium grilled meats, fresh Algarve seafood, and a curated wine list.  You can eat inside or outside, which is what we opted to do!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here, and while it was one of our more expensive meals on this trip, it felt special dinner out.  We were just as impressed with the service as we were at every other place around the resort. It was the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing dinner on our first night in the Algarve!

Terrace Pool Bar & Lume Lobby Lounge

During the day, the Terrace Pool Bar is the perfect place to order a refreshing drink or light bite! The menu includes cocktails, beer, fresh juices, and casual poolside fare, making it easy to spend the entire afternoon relaxing out there on the pool deck.

We also enjoyed spending time in the beautiful Lume Lobby Lounge. This comfortable space transitions from a quiet spot for coffee or afternoon tea into an inviting cocktail lounge in the evenings.

Since it opens directly toward the pool area, it creates a seamless indoor-outdoor atmosphere and is another great place to unwind after a day exploring the Algarve. We noticed live music in there on the evening of our arrival, which was a Saturday night. They also serve snacks here from 12 pm until around 10 pm.

There is also a small gift shop near the front desk at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve with snacks and cold drinks you can grab and go, including beer.

Is Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort Worth It?

Absolutely! The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort ended up being one of our favorite hotels during our 18-day trip to Portugal, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.  And the bed was very comfortable, which I knew I would get from this Hyatt stay.  We were in apartment-style rentals before and after this with much less comfortable beds, so this was a treat!

The biggest standout for me was the service at the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve. From the moment we checked in until we drove away two days later, every employee we encountered was genuinely warm, friendly, and eager to help. It reminded me of the type of hospitality you hope to experience at a luxury resort but don’t always find.

The recent renovation also deserves a lot of credit. Although the property itself isn’t new, everything from the guest rooms and restaurants to the pools and common areas felt fresh, modern, and beautifully designed.

It honestly felt like we were staying at a brand-new hotel!

I also think the location is hard to beat if you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation. It’s an easy walk to the beach, beach clubs, and Vilamoura Marina, and it’s only about 30 minutes from Faro Airport.

Whether you’re planning to spend your days at the pool, golfing, exploring the Algarve, or simply relaxing, it’s an easy resort to enjoy.

While there are plenty of beautiful resorts throughout the Algarve, we had a fantastic experience here and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. It’s a great choice for couples, families, golfers, and Hyatt loyalists alike. Plus, we found it to be an excellent value, whether you’re paying cash or redeeming Hyatt points.

If you’re considering a stay at Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve Resort, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. But I would absolutely pair it with a few nights in Lagos to experience a whole other side of the Algarve.  It’s such a magical place!
