Best Airbnb Furniture Guide
Sometimes, you buy an Airbnb already furnished. But is the furniture the best fit for your new rental property? In most cases, you will need to replace some, if not all, of the furniture in your new short-term rental.  This can be due to wear and tear, outdated decor, low-quality pieces, and furniture that simply doesn’t fit your vision or your Airbnb guests’ needs.
Buying all new furniture can be expensive! Can you write off furniture for Airbnb? Yes! All the furniture and decor you purchase for your new short-term rental are tax-deductible, which helps take the edge off a bit. But getting your new Airbnb set up for success from the very start is critical, and purchasing high-quality Airbnb furniture is just the cost of doing business. So, don’t skimp!

Where to Buy the Best Airbnb Furniture
If you are looking for the best furniture for Airbnb rentals, here are my top six stores. I shop at all of these each time I set up a new Airbnb property. I am even listing them in order, with my favorite furniture store being Wayfair. Â
Wayfair
I love Wayfair because it has an incredible selection of over 5,000 brands, great prices, and a top-notch rating system. So, it’s a great place to browse when you are ready to start an Airbnb. Most items offer free shipping, and many items ship in just one day! I often find what I am looking for at Wayfair, especially hard-to-find items like sofa beds and coffee tables for your Airbnb.
Another perk is the ability to create Lists on Wayfair. Since the selection is so vast, I often save things that catch my eye so that I can easily find them again. You can also create lists to help compare items. For example, if you are looking for the best barstools for your Airbnb kitchen, start a list and add to it as you come across them. Then go back and whittle it down until you decide which to buy.
If you are shopping for outdoor furniture, Wayfair is my favorite place to buy high-quality Polywood items. We don’t have outdoor spaces at our rentals, but I outfitted our whole pool area at home with six loungers and a conversation set in the mahogany color. I love it!
Wayfair is also a great place to find rugs for your Airbnb, but don’t overdo it! I only use them in the main living room area. Lastly, don’t sleep (haha) on the Wayfair Sleep line. Their mattresses are of great quality, and we use them in one of our rentals.
Amazon
Next up is the big dog—Amazon! You can find pretty much anything here, and it’s a great place to buy smaller items, too! I probably do 90% of my Airbnb shopping on Amazon, including everything from Airbnb bedding to Airbnb bathroom essentials.
The only thing to consider is that not every piece will be high quality, so you really need to read the reviews. On the other hand, you can often find incredible pieces like this Jofran Chevron Grammercy Cabinet. It also comes in other color sizes, such as two-doors and four-doors, and is one of my favorite pieces! The white one is stunning, but it just didn’t fit the vibe in the condo, as you see in my photo below.

Ashley Furniture
When it comes to large pieces of furniture that I want to see in person, Ashley Furniture HomeStores is my first stop. We also buy many items for our own home here. Â
One piece that I really love is the Jennily Dresser that I bought for our last condo purchase. It is such a high-quality statement piece, and the price was very reasonable. Of course, five years later, it’s no longer sold.
Ashley Furniture is another great place to shop for sofas and sofa beds since you will most likely want to sit on them first. However, there is a much better selection online, and the stores don’t always have samples of everything out on the floor. You can also buy Ashley Furniture items on Amazon, Wayfair, and other sites, which I do fairly often.

Target
Target is another hit or miss. The furniture is usually not up to par with what I want for my Airbnb. That said, I have purchased several things there, especially accent pieces that I love.
First, this 42″ Litchfield Round Dining Table and these black chairs were a fantastic find. I highly recommend this table for any smaller dining space. As you can see in the photos below, it really helped me maximize this area and allow for seating for a family of four. It also comes in black.
Additionally, I have some tried and true favorite accent pieces that I always grab from Target, including the following items:
- the perfect small rug
- matted gallery photo frames
- dishes & silverware w/ easy replacements
- soft bed wetting liners for sofa beds
On a side note, I love using Target for same-day delivery orders when I am down at the beach checking on my condos. Often, I don’t know what I need until I get there. So, I quickly inventory items and then place an order for delivery. This frequently includes hand soaps, replacement silverware/cups, lightbulbs, batteries, cleaning supplies, etc.
And don’t forget to stock up on these Airbnb essentials that I always buy in multiples!
Walmart
I don’t buy much furniture at Walmart, but they do have the best prices on the Roku Smart TVs I use in all my Airbnb properties, and the Bissell Little Green, which I use every time I am at our properties.  And, it’s a great place to grab those Airbnb items that most new hosts forget!
But it’s worth browsing from time to time. If you have a fun, quirky place, the Pioneer Woman and Drew Barrymore collections often have great items. They also carry a lot of Better Homes & Gardens and more. I would just make sure to really deep-dive into the reviews. Sometimes, you can find the same items at the above stores for less.
Overstock
Lastly, Overstock is a great place for hidden gems! It merged with the defunct Bed Bath & Beyond, but it is a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind discounted items from popular brands such as Ashley Furniture. They have crazy fast delivery on many things.
One drawback of one-of-a-kind items is that there are often few reviews. So, you may need to Google the item and read reviews elsewhere. You can also compare prices that way!

What to Look for When Buying Airbnb Furniture
Now that I have covered where to shop, I want to discuss what to consider when buying furniture for your Airbnb.
Buying furniture for your Airbnb is similar to buying it for your own home, except it’s not all about your personal wants and needs. There are a few things to consider when purchasing any piece of Airbnb furniture. These items will be used by a variety of Airbnb guests who often don’t take as good care of your things as you would.

#1 Look for Sturdy High Quality Items
This goes without saying, but avoid cheap bedframes, coffee tables, etc.  Not only do they make your place look bad, but they typically don’t last.  You don’t want a wobbly coffee table in your living room!
I try to buy solid wood over particle board and look for dressers with easy-to-open drawers. Just don’t be chintzy when it comes to buying furniture for your Airbnb!
One extra consideration is your coffee table. If you have a sofa bed that will require guests to move the coffee table, make sure it’s light and easy to lift. I love this one shown in my photo below, and it has held up well for us! I do tighten it with an Allen wrench whenever I am down there.

#2 Easy to Clean Airbnb Furniture Ideas
You want to make sure your furniture is easy to clean. Fabric is usually unavoidable on items like sofas, but avoid it when possible. For example, I only recommend upholstered dining chairs if they are leather and wipeable. Wooden chairs are so much easier to clean!
For fabrics, I recommend using ScotchGuard from the start. I always encourage every Airbnb host to get the Bissell Little Green. I use this every single time I am at my rentals to spot-clean sofas, accent chairs, and the headboards on our beds. Usually, I recommend a wooden headboard when possible. However, I love the Zinus beds for two of my Airbnbs, and most have upholstered headboards.
#3 Make Sure Items are Useful & Serve a Purpose
You want to avoid unnecessary decor and furniture in your Airbnb properties. Each piece must serve a purpose and be useful.
This is why I love having cabinets under our living room TVs. They are the perfect place for us to store sofa bed bedding, children’s toys, Airbnb games, and extra amenities.
I mentioned nightstands above. These tend to be highly personal, and most guests won’t need to store items inside and on them while traveling. So, to have room for the largest bed possible in each room, I opt against nightstands. Instead, I replace them with small accent tables that are large enough for a book, a phone, a small lamp, and water.
Please make sure you DO have a lot of hooks at your Airbnb!
Also, avoid unnecessary accent items. One of my pet peeves is when a vacation rental geared toward children has a decorative ladder leaning against the wall. It lures children to play with it and could be dangerous. A basket or inside a cabinet is a much better place for throw blankets.
While I am talking about safety, make sure to mount your Airbnb TVs and secure large full-length mirrors to the wall. It will give your space a much cleaner look anyway!

#4 Choose Solid Pieces That Fill a Space Best
You want your main furniture pieces to fill a room. If you have a high ceiling, make sure to have taller pieces. Use mirrors above dressers to fill walls and give guests an extra place to get ready. Sizing up your space should be the very first thing on your Airbnb furniture checklist. This will help you select the best options and avoid returning items that don’t fit your space.Â
I personally like to make sure my main living room cabinet is wider than the TV. It just fills the space better and makes it feel complete and cozy.
In my two studio condos, I had to be creative when it came to dining or workspace. In my smaller one, I opted for this Ashley Furniture Skempton Set placed against the wall. I couldn’t have come up with a better solution if I had built it myself.
In my 30A family studio with bunk beds, I had a very small dining area where I wanted seating for two adults and two kids. I love this Sauder Boone Dining Table that I found for this space. It’s narrower than other tables, almost like a mini farmhouse table, but it still has plenty of room for working or dining.
#5 Always Read the Reviews
Never buy furniture for your Airbnb without reading the reviews. The best Airbnb furniture will almost always have at least 4/5 stars. You should be able to find great furniture for your Airbnb with a rating of around 4.5 stars. However, it is always important to read the review! Â
While other Airbnb hosts generally do not leave these reviews, they are real people, just like the guests who will be staying in your short-term rental. Did the table get wobbly? Was the fabric difficult to clean? Those are comments to look for!
