Our family just returned home from the best long weekend at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in southwest Florida. This was a personal trip, that we paid for ourselves, but we had such a great time that I wanted to write a quick blog post about this fantastic family friendly resort in Florida!

We take a lot of trips but don’t get a chance to take as many vacations as we should. But this was just what we needed. We spent quality time together, which can sometimes be difficult traveling with teens. And we brought home some amazing memories.

So, if you are looking to take an actual vacation with your family, listen up!

Review of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Florida

Looking For a Family Friendly Resort in Florida?

I had heard many fantastic things about the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, but it seemed almost too good to be true.

SPOILER ALERT: It was even better than I had expected!

This family friendly resort is in Bonita Springs, near Ft. Myers in southwest Florida. What does that mean? No passport required! It’s a mid-size property with many great activities for kids, including five waterslides, four pools, and a fantastic lazy river.

It’s the type of place where you don’t have to leave the property and won’t run out of things to do over a long weekend.

And today, I am excited to tell you more about it!

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point

Located on Estero Bay, just north of Naples, Florida, this Hyatt resort is popular among families but also hosts many business events and weddings. To make the most out of your stay, I recommend planning to stay on-site for most of the trip. This allowed us to truly relax and go at our own pace.

Additionally, this is not an inexpensive place to stay, so you will get the most value when you enjoy all the on-site amenities at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point. As one of the top-rated Hyatt properties, the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point reviews are phenomenal. So, it is worth it! I will share more photos from our stay and what we loved about this property.

Also, if you are a World of Hyatt loyalist, this is a Category 5 Hyatt Property. This means that while the cash price may be higher, the award night pricing is fixed at 20k per night. It fluctuates to 17k for off-peak and 23k for peak nights. This makes it a very popular place to use your Hyatt points, which is what we did!

Consider getting a World of Hyatt credit card to help you earn points faster!

Location: Bonita Springs, Florida

The nearest airport is Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). It took us about 20 minutes to get from the airport to the hotel. This airport is serviced by 16 airlines and includes 63 non-stop flight options.

This hotel is not located directly on the beach. But that isn’t a downside. In fact, we loved how isolated it felt!

Rooms at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point

This Hyatt hotel offers standard rooms with 2 Queen beds, 1 King Bed, and sofabeds. There are also some great suite options, including a family suite. Many rooms have either a Juliet balcony or a regular balcony with a small table and two chairs. We stayed in a standard 2 Queen Bayview room with a balcony.

Here are a few quick photos of our room. It did have a mini fridge and plenty of space for our stuff. I appreciated how the main floor wasn’t fully carpeted and having the space above the drawers to put your things.

What makes the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Such a Great Family Friendly Resort in Florida?

However, we weren’t there for the rooms! We were most looking forward to the waterpark, heated pools, beach time, and, of course, great food and drinks.

So, I want to go through our favorite amenities at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point. These set this property apart from many others and truly gave it a resort feel!

The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Waterpark

The waterpark was the highlight for us. There are four large waterslides and also one for little kids. The water was heated and never felt chilly during our mid-February visit. And these are big slides, too!

A pair of twin racing slides and a larger (single or double) intertube slide are located in the same area as the lazy river. We never had to wait in line for more than a minute, which was a real treat! All four of us enjoyed the slides on all three days we were there.

Additionally, there is another waterside located over in the adjacent pool area. This section has a zero-depth entry and a small kiddie slide as well.

There is one more pool featuring a grotto-style waterfall located at the center of the property that is open to all ages. Lastly, an adult-only pool (featuring lap lanes) and a hot tub are nearby.

All of the pool areas have poolside food and drink service from Corkscrew, the outdoor restaurant located nearby. Note that it does close at 5 PM, so plan accordingly.

Fun games are scattered around the pool decks, including beanbags, Jenga, and even a Beach Hut offering hair wrapping, temporary tattoos, and ear piercings. Abby actually got her ears pierced for the first time on this trip.

The hotel also sells Hyatt Regency Coconut Point day passes for the pool area, including the waterslides and the lazy river. It’s a nice way for locals to enjoy the property.

Private Beach on Big Hickory Island

As mentioned above, the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point is not located directly on the Gulf of Mexico. However, they do have a private beach on Big Hickory Island that just reopened after requiring substantial post-hurricane repairs.

To access the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point private beach, they offer a complimentary boat shuttle that runs every hour. The last boat leaves for the island at 2:45 PM. At the time of our visit, it is only offered Thursday-Sunday, but that may change, so call ahead for an accurate schedule.

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Boat Ride To Private Beach

This boat ride is included with your stay but requires reservations. You can scan the QR code on the activity schedule you get at check-in to reserve your slot. We did it the night before and had no issues getting space.

We love getting out on the water, so the boat ride was fun. In fact, if this had been offered as a paid excursion, we would still have done it!

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point: Big Hickory Island Beach

Once on the island, there are chairs and umbrellas available. These are also included and are first come, first served. People were coming and going all day, so spots were continually opening up.

We loved searching for seashells and enjoying the sunshine! The beaches were almost as pretty as ours up here on 30A. While there was no restaurant on the island, food and drink boats were coming and going along the shore. Some took Venmo, but I recommend bringing cash, too.

There is also a new handicap-accessible pavilion with clean restrooms, tables for dining, and a small snack bar (sodas, chips, etc.). It was very nice!

We truly enjoyed this day at the beach, so try to visit when the boat shuttle is operating so that you can enjoy at least one partial day out there.

Fun Activities For Kids of All Ages

Beyond the beach and water activities, there was plenty more for kids to do. Each day, near the pool, they post a list of daily activities, including Bingo, kickball, arts & crafts, and more.

There is a small putting green, a small arcade, and a rock wall, too! We enjoyed all of these during our stay at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point

A few large firepits are located around the property, and Cool Beans, the coffee shop and market, offer smore’s kits for around $25. We found this to be a wonderful way to close out the evenings!

This Hyatt property also has Camp Hyatt, a paid reservation-only kid’s club/childcare option. Also, a gym is next to the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point spa.

Dining at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point

I have mentioned a few restaurants, but here is a solid rundown of each so you know what to expect during your stay at this family friendly resort in Florida. As I said above, there are great options, and there is no reason to leave the property unless you want to!

Tanglewood

This main restaurant serves breakfast (buffet option or off-menu), lunch, and dinner and is the most “hotel-like” of the different options. We ate breakfast here every day.

Mangroves Bar

Relax with a handcrafted cocktail and appetizer, watch sporting events, or mingle with friends at Mangroves. Take a seat in the bar or on the patio. Located near Tanglewood, not far from the lobby, this full-service bar offers liter fare. We had pizza and a charcuterie board here on our first night.

Tarpon Bay

We ate here in the bar area on both Friday and Saturday nights because they had live music, which we loved! This is their nicer restaurant and offers lake views from the screened porch. The menu is diverse but has a lot of great seafood, including fresh Ceviche.

Corkscrew Poolside Bar & Grill

This poolside bar is open from 11 AM-5 PM daily. Their lunch menu features casual sandwiches, nachos, and more. Plus, they have a variety of frozen tropical drinks and domestic, imported, and local craft beers. You can sit at the tables or bar to dine or put up the flag on the back of your chair for poolside service.

Cool Beans Marketplace

This small market & coffee shop also offers Starbucks coffee and ice cream. Snacks, canned and bottled beverages, and grab-and-go food are available for purchase.

The Ice Cream Truck

We only saw this open on Saturday, but this cute ice cream truck is near the lazy river. It offers churros, shakes, ice cream, and even boozy ice cream drinks for adults!

Why We Loved Our Stay at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point

This was one of those vacations where everyone had a great time. In fact, we are looking at similar Hyatt hotels and resorts for future trips. We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach and the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, both great family resorts offering waterslides as well.

As a mom, I loved that everything was included and didn’t require a lot of planning and coordination. It was safe and allowed Abby and Jake to go off independently. We could sleep in or get up early, and everyone could go at their own pace.

Everyone could truly unplug except me because I’m an Airbnb host (haha). But, jokes aside, there was a lot of quality time and very little bickering. Sometimes, our big trips, such as our recent trip to Rio de Janiero or busy days spent in Paris, France, leave us exhausted. I love those, too, but they are 100% trips.

Our long weekend at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point was the vacation we all needed! I highly reccomend this family friendly resort in Florida to anyone looking for the same thing.
