The bedroom in a short-term rental can make or break a guest experience. It’s very important to make sure that you create a clean, comfortable place for your Airbnb guests to relax and recharge. So, in this Airbnb hosting blog post, I want to share some Airbnb bedroom ideas and an Airbnb bedroom checklist for you to use in your own rental property!
Airbnb Bedroom Ideas
There are many different ways to decorate and design the bedrooms in Airbnb rentals. But the design is honestly less important than the functionality! You need to be intentional with each and every decision you make. So, I want to share some valuable Airbnb hosting tips to help you create the perfect Airbnb bedrooms for your guests.
Follow these tips, and you’ll be set up for success. Trust me! I am a top-rated Airbnb host with 4 condos on 30A. Here at Our Little Lifestyle, I share first-hand tips for Airbnb hosts so that they can work smarter, not harder. This is what allows us to travel with our kids while remotely running our Airbnb from our home in Alabama or around the world!
The Perfect Airbnb Bedroom
What do you need to do to set your rental property apart from the others? How are you going to earn those top reviews and stay at the top of the Airbnb search results?
Well, you need to create a space that is:
- clean
- comfortable
- clutter-free
The bedroom of an Airbnb rental is different from the one in your own home. Guests, one after another, will be using it while living out of suitcases. It’s less about what you want and more about what they need. Also, when you are hosting multiple couples or families in a large rental home, the bedroom will serve as a quiet retreat, dressing room, and home base for your guests.
Honestly, bedrooms are very personal, and your rental property is very transient. So, you want guests to easily make themselves at home so that they feel comfortable and relaxed in your short-term rental! And I am going to tell you how to do that!

Everything You Need For Your Airbnb Bedrooms
Here are 10+ items that you need to have in your Airbnb bedroom, along with some first-hand tips for purchasing. In many cases, I already have dedicated, detail-oriented blog posts about that item, so I will include those links in each section for you to read through.
My blog is full of incredible first-hand insight, so please take advantage of that and read through all of my Airbnb blog posts!
#1 Your Complete Airbnb Bed
Most hosts will agree that the bed is the most important thing in your Airbnb. It’s so easy to make it clean and comfortable, but so many hosts struggle with this! We have stayed in a dozen short-term rentals all around the world already this year, and only one or two had mattresses and bedding that I liked.
Buying An Airbnb Bed
When choosing a bed for each bedroom in your Airbnb, you typically want to buy the largest bed possible. Offering a king-sized bed often leads to more bookings.
If you have a small place, like my one-bedroom condo, you should aim for that one bed to be a king-sized bed. If you have multiple bedrooms, anticipate your guest’s needs. For example, if you are hosting multiple families at a time, 2 master bedrooms with king-size beds are ideal.
Avoid buying cheap metal bed frames. Opt for something sturdy and highly rated. There are many great platform bed options these days that do not require a box string. I have a big fan of the Zinus beds, and have a full Amazon List of Airbnb Beds.
I will say that wooden beds that are easy to clean are ideal. That said, I did opt for upholstered beds in two of my units because I wanted a high headboard to fill the space. If you do choose upholstered headboards, make sure you have a Bissel Little Green cleaner on hand to clean them often!
You will also want to have Allen wrenches on hand and make sure your bed is tight and not wiggling or making noise and making noise.

Choosing An Airbnb Mattress
This goes hand in hand with the last one! At the same time you choose your Airbnb bed, you need to purchase a top-rated mattress for it. I want to preface this by saying that mattresses are also very personal, and everyone sleeps differently. You won’t be able to please 100% of the people, but you want to please the other 99%.
For this reason, I use Zinus Memory Foam Mattresses in my condos. Also, I get frequent compliments about how comfortable they are and can personally vouch for them! They are great, affordable Airbnb mattress options.
However, here are some alternatives (hybrid, spring, and memory foam) that are also consistently rated highly.
After buying a mattress, make sure to have a fully zippered waterproof, allergen, and bed bug-safe mattress protector and a mattress pad.

Airbnb Bedding
At this point, we have a bed and mattress, along with a mattress protector and pad. We just need the bedding! Make sure to read my Airbnb bedding guide below, which explains why I choose white bedding and why my cleaners prefer duvets and duvet covers over comforters. You want your Airbnb rooms to feel like hotel rooms!

Here are the exact items that I use in each of our condos, and my guests love them!
I have mixed feelings about using blankets in your Airbnbs, and I recommend you read this post before deciding for yourself!
My Favorite Airbnb Pillows
Now you just need pillows! I like to have four pillows on every queen or king-sized bed and one or two pillows on the twin beds. For King beds, I buy the larger king-sized pillows. I buy standard pillows for the queen beds and smaller ones.
I have two of these gel memory foam pillows on each king or queen bed, and my guests love them. We actually use them on all of our beds at home, too! It’s this pillow Airbnb guest rave about.
Then, we have two regular down alternative-style pillows. Frankly, you can really choose anything. I usually grab fresh ones at Homegoods, and as long as the two on each bed match, you are good.
Here are some additional pillow reccomendations:
Make sure to use zippered pillow protectors on your pillows. My favorite are the Allerease brand because they are soft, don’t make noise, and are allergen-safe.
I realize this section is long, but it’s really important to create the perfect Airbnb bed for your vacation rental! I will go through the remaining sections much quicker!
#2 A High-Quality Dresser & Mirror
You should be good with one full-size quality dresser in your Airbnb bedroom. Do not skimp here! Make sure the drawers open and close easily.
I like to place large mirrors over the dressers in my bedrooms so that they double as makeup / getting-ready areas. Likewise, avoid putting a lot of trinkets on them, and consider a silicone mat for hot hair tools. I learned that the hard way!
In some situations, the TV is best placed over the dresser. In that case, try to provide another area for makeup, such as a mirror over a desk or a full-length mirror adjacent to the dresser. However, see how I arranged the below room with the TV mounted clean and flush against the wall and the Ashley Furniture dresser and mirror to the side nearest the bathroom.

#3 A Full-Length Mirror
Speaking of a full-length mirror, try to have one in every bedroom! I highly recommend that you mount it securely to the wall rather than leaning it against the wall. Mirrors also help make a room appear bigger.
I have several full-length mirrors listed in my Amazon Furniture and Decor List!
#4 Nightstands (or Not?)
In my Airbnb Furniture Blog Post, I share some thoughts on whether or not you need full-sized nightstands in your Airbnb bedrooms. Basically, if it’s a large room and you can use them to fill the space, get them.
However, if you have to sacrifice bed size to fit them in, skip them and do an accent table instead. People would rather have a king-sized bed than two full-sized nightstands. Additionally, most just need room for a small lamp, the guest’s phone charger, water, and the remote control on each side, and the drawers remain unused.
Nightstands I Love:
- Signature Design by Ashley Robbinsdale
- Oxford 2 Drawer Nightstand
- Boho Nightstands
- Nathan James Mid-Century Nightstand
Accent Tables I Love:
- Farmhouse Round Accent Table
- Walker Edison Cora Modern Round Table
- VASAGLE Round Side Table
- Krish End Table
#5 Black Out Curtains
Make absolutely sure that you have light-darkening, preferably blackout, shades in all of your Airbnb bedrooms and wherever a sofa bed is being used. Honestly, you can even skip expensive blinds if you have blackout curtains.
My Favorite Curtains: H.VERSAILTEX 100% Blackout Curtains
Also, make sure your curtain rod wraps around or extends far enough to eliminate light entering in on the sides.
My Favorite Curtain Rod: Target French Pipe Curtain Rod
#6 Your Airbnb Bedroom Closet
Your Airbnb closet should have high-quality hangers, luggage racks, and extras such as garment steamers and irons. Please read my full Airbnb Closet Essentials Post for a complete list of what to include, plus links to everything!
#7 A Sitting Area vs A Bench
If your room is oversized, you may consider adding a chair to create a sitting area. However, that likely will become a luggage storage area. You may be better off putting a wood or leather bench that will stay clean and a set of hooks on that wall for guests to stay organized.
#8 The Airbnb Bedroom Rugs Debate
I’m not too fond of rugs in an Airbnb bedroom if you already have wood or tile floors. They are just another difficult-to-clean extra. However, if your room is already carpeted, a runner by the beds may help you keep the carpet clean.

#9 Television
I think most guests appreciate having a television in each bedroom. Many like to relax and catch up on their shows at night. We love Roku Smart TVs because they allow Guest Mode, in which your renters can log into and stream their own apps.

If you do put a TV in your bedroom, mount it on the wall and hide the cords. It just looks so much better! There is no reason to have one sitting on top of a dresser in this day and age.
#10 Desk Or Workspace
Again, if you have ample space, especially in the master suite, consider a workspace. Purchase a slim desk, add a mirror on top, and it doubles as a getting-ready area. This separate work area makes you much more desirable for digital nomads and guests working remotely!
#11 Other Airbnb Bedroom Essentials
That’s about it! Now you have the best Airbnb bedroom ideas and can set yourself up for success! However, there are a few extras to consider. For example, we love putting subtle hooks everywhere.
You may also want to include the following items:
What Should You Avoid in An Airbnb Bedroom?
So, what don’t you need in your bedrooms? You want to avoid knickknacks and unnecessary shelves on the wall. For decor, make sure any framed prints are securely fastened and easy to clean. I like to avoid rattan and palm-style decor that gathers dust!
For everything, just ask yourself if that item serves a purpose and it does not. Furthermore, is there something else that would be a better fit for Airbnb guests?
And one last tip: make sure to highlight your perfect Airbnb bedroom in your listing! List all amenities. Show off that full-length mirror and workspace. Make sure your photos are well-lit. Make sure your bed is made just as it will be when your Airbnb guests arrive! Whether you have a studio condo or a 4-bedroom Airbnb rental, showcase each bedroom!
