So, over the past several months we have really started curating some special family moments with the kids.  One that is really important to us is our daily “Best Part. Worst Part.” conversation.

Basically, during dinner, bedtime or an evening car ride we carve out 5-10 minutes to talk about the best and worst parts of our day.  It’s so easy.  One of us will just start and say

“What was your best part & worst part today?”

Each person takes a turn answering and then picks the next person to go.  It has been really awesome for us.  It serves as a great conversation starter but more importantly it is teaching us to be open with each other.  And opens up a dialogue to talk about things that may be tougher to unearth otherwise.  Abby sometimes tells us about issues at school or Matt can open up about something sad that happened at work or on the news.  It really keeps us vulnerable and helps our family see that none of us are perfect and it’s ok to talk about everything under the sun.  This has been really great for Abby and it’s fun to see what moments of the day they really cherish.  It just might surprise you!!!  And on the flip side, many nights Jake’s best part involves superheros and poo-poo and really makes no sense at all.  But, that’s ok.  At least he’s talking to us and it’s actually kind of fun to see inside his mind.

Do you do something like this with your family?  If so, I would love to hear about it in the comments below!

If you don’t then maybe give it a whirl!  The earlier that you start having open and honest conversations in your household the easier it will be to continue them through those upcoming years when the children would rather keep to themselves and not be comfortable talking about issues they face.

This was my best part today! Sunshine.  Watching them share eggs with each other and an all around beautiful day.

The below post egg hunt, too much sugar, we want more eggs,  temper tantrum may have been my worst.
