Bula! If you have ever visited Fiji, you know how important that phrase is in their culture. It means hello, welcome, life, cheers, blessings, good health, and more. For me, Bula signifies a warmth and acceptance that made me feel right at home in the islands. Everyone should experience the magic of Fiji at least once in their lifetime, and there has never been a better time to plan a Fiji vacation!
Why Plan A Fiji Vacation Now?
A trip to Fiji had always been doable for but required a long-haul departure from the west coast of North America (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver). That’s all changed!
Beginning in December 2024, Fiji Airways will operate a new direct flight from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Nadi International Airport in Fiji. This is a game-changer that will move your dream Fiji vacation to the front of your bucket list.
New Nonstop Flight To Fiji From Dallas, Texas
This new Fiji Airways DFW to NAN nonstop flight will begin on December 10th and last just over thirteen hours. Currently, they operate three nonstops per week, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that eventually increased due to demand. As I mentioned in a recent blog post, the Fiji Airways Fares are much more affordable than I expected.

You may be wondering why this is so exciting, especially if you live on the West Coast. Well, for you, not much will change. However, for everyone living in the Midwest, South, and East Coast, this makes a Fiji vacation much easier to plan. I know it does for me!
When I traveled to Fiji in May, I had to take a flight from Southern Alabama to Atlanta to Los Angeles. From there, I had a nine-hour layover before departing on my almost eleven-hour flight to Fiji. All in all, it was nearly thirty straight hours of travel, albeit well worth it still.
Benefits Of A DFW To NAN Direct Flight
This new flight between Nadi, Fiji, and Dallas, Texas, would have shaved about twelve hours off of my recent travel day. The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is a major US hub with direct flights to much of the South, Midwest, and East Coast, including an airport near me in Panama City, Florida (ECP).
From many locations, the flight time to Dallas is under two hours and often inexpensive. This means that many people can get to DFW either via a short drive or a short repositioning flight. From there, you can board your overnight flight to Fiji! And while it is a long flight at almost thirteen and a half hours, it gives you ample time to east and get to sleep. Coming home, the return flight from NAN to DFW is only twelve hours.
If you are a Capital One Venture X cardholder, pop into the new Capital One Lounge at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. It’s one of my newer favorites!

A Fiji Vacation Makes A Great Family Trip
Now that you know you can get to Fiji let me tell you why it is such a great place to visit. I fell in love with its warm hospitality and diverse landscape. The people are what make Fiji vacations so memorable!
Here are some of the reasons why a Fiji vacation should be on your radar.
- Fiji Is Affordable
- Fiji Is Family Friendly
- Fiji Has Beaches & More
- Fiji Has Incredible People
Fiji Is More Affordable Thank You May Think
One of my biggest surprises when visiting Fiji was how inexpensive everything was. Of course, the airfare will be your largest expense when planning a family vacation to Fiji. However, accommodations in Fiji were much less than what you would pay in the United States or at resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. Also, there aren’t too many true all-inclusive resorts in Fiji. However, many include breakfast and offer a range of meal plan packages.
In addition, food and activities were surprisingly expensive due to the culture and the exchange rates.
In my recent post, I broke down all costs, including various Fiji resorts, and answered the question: Can You Plan A Family Trip To Fiji For $5000? Make sure to read that because I think you’ll be surprised at the answer!
Fiji Is Great For Families With Kids Of All Ages
Another takeaway from my trip to Fiji was how family-friendly it is! Almost every resort has options for kids clubs, robust children’s programming, nanny service, and wholesome family activities.
It was evident that the Fiji people love caring for their guests, children in particular! I stayed at three different Fiji resorts, and there was always something for the kids to do. That said, the great thing is that you can make your Fiji vacation as active or relaxing as you’d like.
You are going to love playing with your children on these beautiful beaches on your holiday to Fiji!

Fiji Is So Much More Than Beaches
Of course, Fiji is known for its stunning beaches and beautiful blue water. But did you know that there is so much more to Fiji than just beaches? On my trip, I rode horses, took a speedboat up the river to the heart of the main island, visited an authentic Fijian village, shared cava with the locals, and cruised along an old sugar cane track on electric bikes.
Fiji is a fantastic destination to visit with teenagers, especially those who love adventure. If you are curious about what you can do on a Fiji vacation with older kids, read my Top 5 Reasons To Visit Fiji With Teenagers blog post!
Fiji Is Known For Its Warm Hospitality
Lastly, if you want to visit a destination where you truly feel welcome, Fiji is for you! From warm smiles and friendly Bulas, the Fijian people are among the friendliest I have ever encountered over our lifetime of travels.
In Fiji, hospitality goes hand in hand with the sense of pride many Fijians hold for their nearby village and the beautiful islands they call home. Not only do they want you to enjoy your Fiji vacation, but also to fall in love with this magical destination and appreciate it as they do.
Plan Your Fiji Vacation Today
If you are ready to plan your Fiji vacation, start by finding the dates that work for you and booking your airfare with Fiji Airways.
From there, you can decide which resorts to visit. Here is how I usually go about planning our international trips! Alternatively, many package deals to Fiji include airfare and accommodations if you don’t want to plan it all yourself. However, I think the price would be similar whether you booked things ala carte or chose one of the Fiji vacation packages.
For Fiji, I recommend a trip of at least 7 days and splitting your time between the main island and one of the outer islands. Castaway Island, for example, is so special and somewhere I highly reccomend!
Happy travels! I truly hope you can take advantage of these new flights from Dallas to Fiji on your next family vacation.
