Ooh, baby, do you know what that’s worth? Ooh, Heaven is the Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas!
And I am only half-joking because when it comes down to it, there are very few places that I would rather be than an open-air courtyard, with live music and food trucks, enjoying a cold beer with my family and friends.
My sister and brother-in-law brought me to the Truck Yard Dallas (the original location near Knox/Henderson) a few years ago, and I fell in love. We used to live in the California desert, and there was a true dive bar out in the middle of nowhere called Slash X. Truck Yard is a spitting image.
On my last trip to Dallas, Texas, they brought me to the newer Truck Yard, The Colony, near Frisco, Texas. It was literally the most picture-perfect afternoon.
Truck Yard in The Colony (near Dallas, Texas)
Why should you visit? Well, if you know, you know.
The Truck Yard has quickly become a favorite gathering for the locals. It’s a come-as-you-are kind of joint where something fun is almost always going on. But for those of you just passing through the Dallas metro area, it can be easy to miss. This is because it doesn’t show up on most “best things to do in Dallas” listicles.
That’s because the people writing those don’t have the best travel guides showing them around. My sister Lindsay and her husband Tevin know ALL of the best places to eat in the Dallas area. Every time we visit, they bring us to one even better than the last.
Do you remember my post about Heirloom Haul and Flea Style? So fun! They knew how much I enjoyed my visit to the Truck Yard in downtown Dallas on my last visit. So, this time, they brought me to the new, much larger Truck Yard location at The Colony in the north Dallas suburbs.
The Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas
So, today, I want to share about this specific location with you because we were there most recently. Plus. I have a bunch of photos that I wanted to share.
Truck Yard, The Colony, Texas, opened its doors not too long before the start of the pandemic. With ample outdoor seating, food trucks, and an open-air music venue, actually found itself one of the go-to destinations for people who wanted a sense of normalcy.
When we visited last summer, on a weeknight. The place was abuzz with groups of coworkers, families with children, and couples sneaking in a low-key date night. It truly is a place to gather!
Once you arrive, you can’t miss the entrance and their witty, always-changing sign. A series of old cars reminiscent of Cadillac Ranch welcome you into the venue where, on most nights, live music is on the menu.
Once you arrive, grab yourself a cold beer and order a cheesesteak or something special from the food trucks.
And if you like these laid-back Texas vibes, consider staying nearby in Irving at The Texican Court!

Where The Heck is The Colony, Texas?
Ok, so I have to admit that before I wrote this post, I thought that Truck Yard was in Frisco, Texas. I knew it was at The Colony but thought that was the name of the general shopping district.
However, The Colony is actually a town in the northern Dallas suburbs. It’s tucked right in the middle of several more well-known Dallas suburbs, such as Plano, Frisco, Lewisville, Carrollton, Grapevine, and Denton, and boasts a population of over 45,000.
Drinks at Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas
The motto for Truck Yard is BREWS * GRUB * TUNES, so let’s hit the drinks first! Truck Yard has rotating taps, and you can usually find approximately 20 draft beer options at the main bar. They also carry a few special brews from Second Rodeo Brewing. Depending on how busy the place is, you will often find smaller beer-only bars set up around the facility as well.
In addition to draft and canned beer, you can find a full bar with a wide range of craft cocktails (including frozen drinks for those hot Texas summers) and liquors. Wine is served by the can, and they do offer a bucket of mimosa special featuring a bottle of champagne + 2 juices. But that’s not all!
Beard Science Sour House at Truck Yard
The Truck Yard actually has a brewery on-site – and it’s anything but ordinary! Beard Science is a sour-focused brewing house that uses unique fermentation techniques and a souring process that you won’t come across just anywhere.
In addition to over a dozen specialty brews on tap, including the Beard Juice Pickle Sour, they offer a wide selection of whiskeys, including many allocated and hard-to-find barrels. And a full bar!
Food at Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas
Is it just me, or does everything taste better when it comes from a food truck?
The Truck Yard features a variety of food trucks 7 days a week, weather permitting that is. They typically have 2-3 different ones on weekdays and 4-6 on the weekends. To see which ones will be there during your visit, make sure to check out the Truck Yard food truck schedule in advance!
In addition to the ever-changing selection of food trucks, you can always get a cheesesteak or nachos from the food counter located inside, just off the main bar.
This is a great option for earlier in the day before the food trucks arrive or for days when they aren’t on-site. We tried the cheesesteak, and it was absolutely fantastic!
You can view the Truck Yard menu (both food and drink) by clicking here.
Music at Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas
Finally, if you are still deciding whether to visit Truck Yard, do it for the jams!
Truck Yard has live music daily, and it usually starts around 6 p.m. on weekdays. However, I’ve noticed that some days have two entertainers—one at 4 p.m. and another at 8 p.m. On Saturdays, live music starts at noon and continues all day, which is why it tends to be the busiest day of the week. Sundays also typically have multiple musicians starting around 1 p.m. and then a second act at 5 p.m.
They do a wonderful job posting the entertainment schedules in advance, so make sure to check out the Truck Yard music schedule when planning your visit.
Can Kids Visit The Truck Yard?
Go for it! All ages are welcome at Truck Yard The Colony until 9 pm.
However, when I was just looking at their website, I did see that if the kids are already there at 9 pm, they can stay; however, no one under 21 can enter the Truck Yard after 9 pm.
Are Dogs Allowed at The Truck Yard?
You can! In fact, the Truck Yard is very accommodating for your furry friends!
The Toilet Seat Museum at The Truck Yard
Yes, you read that right. And it’s quite inspirational at that!
What started out as a joke, attaching antlers to a toilet seat, quickly turned into a passion, and Barney Smith spent his lifetime creating art out of toilet seats. His works were housed in his own backyard in San Antonio’s Alamo Heights neighborhood from 1992 to 2019, when it was moved to the Truck Yard in The Colony, Texas. At age 97, and just a few months before his passing, he was able to see his life’s work on display at Truck Yard.
Y’all, I have tears streaming down my face as I write this! I have such a soft spot for human accomplishments as well as both oddities and legacies. And it’s not just me taking notice. His work garnered international attention and some pretty spectacular donations, including pieces of the Berlin Wall and of the Space Shuttle Challenger.
You can view the collection of over 1400 toilet seats on your next visit to Truck Yard! And for more information about the museum and Barney Smith including the photo that literally brought me to tears, check out the Toilet Seat Museum page on Truck Yard’s website.

This place is AWESOME! As mentioned in the article, hanging out listening to music on the porch with your friends (and furry friend), sipping a beer and having several food trucks to choose from, can’t be beat. Along with all of the activities to choose from every weekend (they do themed parties every week/month, depending on the month), you’ll never want to leave (or go anywhere else)!
I’ve seen and been to all the truck yards and the colony is the best one hands down. It almost feels like a mini playground for adults. The best design I would have to say though is second son brewery in ft worth, especially all the drum barrels hanging from the ceiling. I’m so curious about the alliance one opening up soon!
