You guys know that I love me some subscription boxes!

Somehow, I never seem to be in the delivery area for produce delivery boxes.  So, I was really excited when I found out that Misfits Markets delivers to me here in Dothan, Alabama and signed up about a month ago.  I have since gotten two huge boxes of organic produce delivered right to my door and couldn’t be happier!

This post is not sponsored however I will include my refer-a-friend code here (COOKWME-CJ4XXR) because it saves you 25% on your first box.

What is Misfits Market?

UPDATE: Since publishing this post Misfits Market has made a couple of exciting changes.  First, they now service several more states so I updated the map below.  You can also now customize your box which is huge!  Make sure to get on right as the window opens (I set a reminder on my phone) for the best selection.  They have even more add-ons to choose from as well.  I have been a subscriber for months now and am very happy with the service.  Having fresh produce delivered weekly means that I go to the grocery store only 1-2 times a month.

Misfits Market is an organic produce delivery box servicing most of the Midwest and the Eastern United States whose mission is to provide affordable access to healthy food and to fight the food waste crisis.    They offer two sizes: Madness Box (18-22lbs) and Mischief Box (10-13lbs) and service weekly or biweekly.

Basically, this is produce that isn’t able to hit the grocery store shelves.  Maybe it has a blemish or the demand was too high for the need, but for whatever reason, it is deemed a misfit.  Misfits Market provides another outlet for these “perfectly” good foods and passes on the savings too!  We have been really happy with what we have gotten so far.  The organic mangoes were the highlight of my first box and the kids can’t get enough of the carrots, apples, and oranges!

The above map shows Misfit Market’s current service area and most zipcodes in the shaded states are covered.  I know it kind of stinks to hear about these things, sign up, and then realize that you aren’t even in the service area.  Literally, it’s the story of my life so I wanted to show that map upfront.   Today, I would like to share with you guys some reasons why I am loving this service!

Seven  Reasons Why I  Love Misfits Market Produce Delivery

1. It’s organic!

I always try to buy organic when I can but it’s expensive and my family goes through a lot of produce.  Knowing that everything in my box is certified organic and non-GMO is exciting to me.  Many of the items we received were from smaller farms around the United States and I feel like this is a small but great way to keep supporting organic farmers everywhere.

2. I feel like I am getting a good deal.

I subscribed to the larger Madness box and my total was $42 shipped.  ($35+t/s) and for around 20lbs of organic produce, hand-delivered to me,  I think that is a great deal!  It’s even less costly if you opt for the smaller box.  And now that you can customize your box, I am getting an even better deal knowing that my family will love and be able to use everything that comes!

3. I can avoid the grocery store.

It used to be that we avoided the grocery store because it’s a big old chore but nowadays we are faced with the additional challenge of staying safe and healthy while social distancing.   We often do dinner boxes (I love Home Chef) and some essentials via Amazon Prime, so now having an option to have our healthy produce delivered as well allows me to make less frequent trips to the store.

4.  We are eating healthier.

I don’t like to let things go to waste so I find myself cooking more when I have fresh produce.  Just in the last few weeks, I have learned how to make acorn squash in my Instant Pot and last night I roasted Butternut Squash and Brussel Sprouts with all kinds of seasonings.  It was so good I had the rest for lunch today.  The kids have been munching on carrots, celery and cucumber which makes me feel good about what they are shoving into their mouths the rest of the day.  Yikes!  We won’t get into that.

5.  You can skip boxes easily and up until the last minute.

I hate when subscription services make me lock in choices 7-14 days in advance.  With Misfits Market I can make changes up until Saturday for my box that ships the next week!  For example, my next box ships the week of May 17th (I do Thursday delivery) and I can choose to skip or re-order a skipped box up until 7pm CST on Saturday, May 16th.

6.  I love the add-ons!

Starting with your second box you have the option to add-on additional items up until that cutoff listed above.   It’s all at a discount too! This week I could add organic blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries as well as avocados and about 15 other items.  They also let you add on pantry items, herbs, condiments, oils, coffee, and more.  I am excited to use this service more!

7. I feel good about limiting food waste.

I don’t care how perfect my apples look or if my carrots have a little nub at the end instead of a perfect point.  It makes me sad to think of these items going to waste and it may sound silly but I feel really good knowing that I am giving them a good home!
