We made it through the first week of school!  If you read my last post you know that this is a big transition year for the kids but they have adjusted so well.   I found that they are actually thriving in their new routine.  On day three Jake actually woke up 30 minutes before his alarm.  Matt and I were up and heard some clanking just before 6am.   When we went to investigate we saw Jake in his uniform working on getting his belt through all of the loops.   We had a good laugh about that.

And speaking of uniforms, can I just say that I love them.   They pull them out the night before and it makes getting ready so easy.  And they look so stinkin’ cute in their little polo shirts.    They do have a lot of flexibility in the dress code and can wear any color polo, dress, school t-shirt, and solid color bottoms.

I mean, so cute right?!?

Our friends at French Toast provided them with a few sets of uniforms for their first week back.  Keep reading for some photos and a sale!

But first, I want to share one of our traditions with you.  Most of your probably take those front porch back to school photos.  I bet you have a cute little sign with some fun facts about your sweet kiddo.  Well, I want to suggest that you take it a bit further!

Make a video!

Take another minute and hit record.  Ask your kids a few questions.  How old are they?  What grade are they going into?  Do they have a favorite subject?  How about a favorite food.  Who are their friends?  What book they have read last.   Do they have a favorite song?

The questions don’t really matter.  It’s just a way to bottle up those sweet voices and mannerisms.  I like to catch them off guard with a few questions.    Then I share them to Facebook and cry ugly mom tears when they show up in my memories in years to come.  #TRUTH

Here are their videos from this year and their videos from 3 years ago.

One of my favorite memories of little Abby is right there when I asked her about her “wish” for the school year and she said “my goal?”  That is totally her.   And I can’t believe that I got Jake to sing on camera twice.  I can’t deal with how cute he sounds singing You Are My Sunshine.   I am so grateful that I took those quick videos three years ago.

Did you catch Jake peeking up in the window of Abby’s 2nd-grade video?  Haha.

And you may be thinking that you missed the boat because the school year already started.   Guess what?  You haven’t!  Here are a few other options.   Do it on Monday and pretend it’s the first day.  Do a recap video and ask them about their first couple weeks of school (who is in their class, etc).  Or keep this idea in mind and do it every year on a birthday!  There are no rules.  Have fun and bottle up some memories.

If you like this idea please leave me a comment on this post!  And I would love it if you shared it with a friend!
