So, it’s no secret that I love little one night staycations. Because I work from home, parent from home and have so many responsibilities at home a change of scenery is such a breath of fresh air for me! I have some fond memories of hotel pools and quick getaways from my childhood and I love passing on those memories to my kids.
First, where is Matt? He’s at work. This is one thing that we differ on. He doesn’t find bring trapped in a hotel with the kids to be relaxing and he often really appreciates a quite night at home. So, I like to getaway on weekdays (where I can usually find great rates) and then we both go into our weekend feeling refreshed in our own way!
So for this one we booked a room at The Chase Park Plaza. I am in love with the history their and the pool is so beautiful. They have a movie theater in house and it’s adjacent to Forest Park which houses the St Louis Zoo, Art Museum, The Boathouse, Jewel Box, Muny, Missouri History Museum and more with the Science Center adjacent. Plus, the Central West End houses some fabulous restaurants and I can never resist a visit into the Lululemon! We don’t like to plan ahead so we actually booked our room that morning though a special offer on Travelzoo that included two breakfast buffets in their fabulous Preston restaurant. Make sure to check the main website for reservations as well. They sometimes offer some special pricing for MO and IL residents, amazing military rates and other local attraction packages.
We had a great time! I always suggest filling both days on these overnight staycations. Always look for attarcations nearby and also leave time to explore local hangouts!
After and epic 30 minute drive (lol) we checked in Thursday and got ready for the pool! We spent a few hours there and the weather was amazing. We had planned to catch an afternoon viewing of The Secret Life of Pets but the pool just was too fun! Then we showered, played checkers in the room (we bring this set everywhere) and went out to explore the Central West End. And by that I mean that we played Pokemon Go! We ate at the Gamlin Whiskey House because I can’t stop thinking about the Shrimp and Grits that I ate the last time there and because cocktails make me happy. And went back to the hotel fat and tired for a great night’s sleep!
Checkout isn’t until noon so after our wonderful breakfast we hit up the pool for two more hours. Went up and changed, left the stuff in the car and walked down the street for some frozen yogurt and yoga pants. Energized, we drove next door to Forest Park and spent the afternoon at the St. Louis Zoo! And as we were leaving at 5pm we spotted a fantastic Food Truck festival at the park. There is always something going on there and it never disappoints!
And I would do it all again next week! Get out there, explore your city. The Chase is the Place.
