So, today was a picture perfect day! The weather was just amazing. A hint of Fall in the air but the sunshine of Summer.
I want to share one of our favorite family pastimes with you tonight. We love to ride our bikes! And spent the first half of the day today doing just that.
We started riding a lot when the kids were both smaller. We had a hand me down bike trailer that held them both and would take turns pulling them around the trails over Overland Park, Kansas. Over time they got bigger and the rides got longer so last Spring we purchased a second bike trailer so that we could each tug a kid around.
When we left Kansas a few months ago we were really sad to leave behind such a great trail system. When we bought here in Illinois we made sure to buy in a neighborhood that had easy trail access but had no idea what was in store for us. The Madison Country Transit Trail System rocks our world. Loop upon loop, you can ride 2miles or 200 miles throughout the county. Everyday we do something different. Sometimes we ride out to dinner. We cruise to the park several times a week. We spend hours at a time covering 10-20 miles and discovering so many great things in our own backyard!
This morning we rolled out at 8am. We hit the park, stopped downtown for breakfast and coffee and cruised on to a local Nature Center. Abby crafted a flower crown with some toilet paper and fresh picked flowers. Jake was the ‘leader’ and took us on all kinds of off-beaten paths. We even found a four leaf clover! On the way home we stopped for a quick drink and did a little shopping for grandparent’s day gifts. It was noon when we ended up back home and we still had a big day ahead of us!
