Hello!  Father’s Day is coming up and I want to share a really great gift idea with you all today.  You should buy him the newest GoPro.  It’s the GoPro HERO7 Black.    And I am sure you want to know why.

UPDATE: It’s been a year and the new GoPro 8 is out!  I have heard great things.  This link will take you to the main GoPro page with all of the latest products and info.

Well,  have a bunch of reasons but first I want to tell you what makes it different.   The GoPro HERO7 is the newest model and it comes in 3 different versions – BLACK, SILVER and WHITE.   Yes, they are those colors but they are actually totally different models.  This part gets confusing.  We have the “best” version which is the BLACK and the biggest perk of this one is that it has super smooth image stabilization.  No gimble required.  Look at how smooth this video is from our recent visit to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Panama City Beach:

That clip is 100% unedited! The quality is fantastic! I did have to shrink the file size to upload it onto my blog but my recent YouTube videos all use this camera!

So, here are the specs for each model.  I am going to be talking you into the HERO7 Black because it is worth the extra money.   That smooth video you guys – makes it 100% worth it!   Plus the photos are higher quality.  I have NOT used the live streaming but I think it is a really cool feature to have access too!

Why is it the perfect gift?

Here are my reasons!  Other than the fact that most men I know love to get their hands on new tech gadgets!

You can carry it around so easily.  You don’t have to worry about lugging around a big camera or getting your phone out every few minutes while out having fun.   It fits in your pocket and takes just seconds to turn on and get shooting.  There are so many times now where this is all I bring with me and it lightens the load so much.

The whole family can use it.  So, my last point talked about me even though it’s a Father’s Day gift idea.   And mainly because I envision this being a gift that the whole family can use!  It is so easy to hand off to a stranger to snap a family photo of the whole family.  That’s how we got this photo of us!    It honestly allows me to get into a lot more photos!  I use it on manual and back button focus which makes it nearly impossible to just hand it off to someone to take a photo for me.    And of course, Dad can use it too!  It’s nice to hand off the job of documenting for a bit!  Also, the kids can use it too and it’s really hard to break it.   No more wincing as they run off with your iPhone.  Do you know that feeling?

It’s easy to post and create beautiful images.   You can download the GoPro app on your phone and wirelessly download content onto your phone.   From there you can use their free software to create really cool videos.  I like to take them into my A Color Story App and edit them from there.  Then I post to social media from my phone!  So easy to share your photos and video while on the go!  Most of the images you see here were edited in that app. But honestly, the images look pretty good straight out of the camera! I just like a little extra pop!   You can also control the GoPro camera itself from your phone but that’s not my favorite way too!

It has voice control!  I use this all of the time.  I place it somewhere if I want to get into the photo and then say “GoPro Take a Photo” and it does!  Same with video and so on.  It makes it easy to document while being active especially if you have it mounted on a helmet or something fun like that.

You can customize a lot of settings to your liking.  In general, the GoPro is a pretty wide angle but sometimes I didn’t like the rounded fish-eye look that my images got with our old GoPro.   Just select the LINEAR setting and problem solved!   You can also decide if you want to use the 4K video or 1080p or any other level you want.  I love having a wide angle lens because you can get into those tight places like on a canoe above and also capture a lot of the background which really helps keep memories alive.

It’s waterproof!  Straight out of the box up to 33ft – no extra housing required!  It is so fun to play with it in the water!

The accessories are fun!   Over time you can get different mounts and other accessories to make it even more fun!   I have a big tip for you here.  If you join the GoPro Plus program you get a discount (like 50% off on a lot of things ) on a great selection of accessories and shipping is free too.  You can even just do the first month free trial and take advantage although we keep with it.  For $5 a month you receive unlimited cloud storage, that discount on mounts and accessories and if you break it they will replace it.  Yes, you read that right!   Sure beats some of the other care plans that I have seen out there.  Click here to read more about the GoPro Plus Program.

With an extra battery or two, you can film for a long time!  One of the issues with our old GoPro is that it didn’t have a removable battery and it was hard when it died and we weren’t by a plugin.  I love that I can easily pop a new battery in.   And with the GoPro Plus discount you can get an extra battery for under $10!  I have 3 and am good to go for a big adventure!  Then the dual battery charger is quick and efficient to refuel.

Cost

The GoPro HERO7 Black retails for $399.  It’s currently on sale for $329 on Amazon.

The silver is also on sale at Amazon for $215.

  1. My husband loves our GoPro, I agree definitely a great gift. I suggest getting them the floating handle too. My hubby’s first one ended up on the bottom of a lake in Utah- lesson learned!
