Sitges, Spain, is known as a small coastal town that epitomizes the beauty and atmosphere of Spain’s Catalonia region. Its welcoming atmosphere, sandy beaches, and stunning coastal views make it a hidden gem, situated just 45 minutes from Barcelona. We spent two nights in Sitges, and one of the highlights of our time was taking a Sitges boat tour.

We actually flew into Barcelona, Spain, and headed straight to Sitges for a couple of relaxing days to soak up the sun and kick the jet lag! Honestly, this makes perfect sense because it takes just about as long to get to Sitges from the airport as it takes to get into the heart of Barcelona. Doing this worked out great for us, and we were in much better shape to explore the big city on day three of our trip to Europe!

Taking A Sitges Boat Tour

My family loved visiting Sitges, and I wanted to share our experience taking a boat tour. We knew taking a Sitges boat tour would be a fantastic way to see the gorgeous Balearic Sea and get sweeping views of the Catalan coast and Sitges skyline. We’ve taken boat tours many times, and each of them provided us with unique vantages, special memories, and a lot of family fun. It’s one of our favorite things to do wherever we travel!

I found a newer and well-rated Sitges boat tour on Get Your Guide and decided to book a morning trip for Matt, Abby, and me. The actual tour we took can be found here: Sitges Boat Tour.

Why We Enjoy Get Your Guide Tours

We love taking Get Your Guide tours and have taken many of them all over the world. They have never let us down, and the experiences are always some of our best memories from our trips. The Get Your Guide app is super easy to use while on the go, and most tours often have flexible cancellation and change policies.

Also, having an expert guide take you on an excursion is a great way to have an adventure without the stress and hassle of planning it yourself.

Sitges Boat Tour Overview

We walked from our waterfront San Sebastion Beach rental apartment (Sitges Beach Dreams) east to the Port de Sitges – Aiguadolç, where our boat tour of Sitges started. As we approached the dock, a friendly young man greeted us and guided us to the boat. He was local and spoke English well enough for us to understand. He gave us trip-related information and explained that we would be going out into the bay and traveling west for about 45 minutes before turning around. Drinks and snacks would be available free of charge about halfway through the trip, and we would have the chance to stop and swim if we wanted.

TIP: I read a review from a guest who was disappointed that the boat did not actually sail under wind power. During our Sitges boat tour, we did not open the sails either and operated under motor power the entire way. I’m not sure if this is standard or because of wind conditions. It was a beautiful temperate day when we went out with very little wind. Using the engine allowed us to cover a lot of ground and see much of the Sitges coastline.

The Boat And Captain

The boat was a 36-foot single-hull sailboat named “First 38.” We greeted the two other guests who were taking the Sitges boat tour with us. They were friendly, outgoing American retirees who were fun and talkative.

Our Captain was very friendly. He didn’t speak much English but did his best to communicate the sights and special features along the coastline to us. We had fun bantering with him in our very broken Spanish, although it got better after the second glass of Cava—or maybe it didn’t!

What You’ll See On A Sitges Boat Tour

The Sitges boat tour took us westward along the coastline, staying maybe 1/2 mile offshore. We saw sweeping views of the rugged Spanish coastline, which is hilly, forested, and dotted with vineyards, homes, and beaches.

We could see the baroque-style medieval church, Església de Sant Bartomeu I Santa Tecla, rising above the rooftops along the coast. A now-closed nightclub glinted brightly under the sun but was now quiet. We could see the long public promenade that winds through Sitges and along the coast. It bustled with walkers and riders and united the town’s several beaches with cute cafes, shops, and restaurants.

Some huge yachts moved in the distance, their massive spinnakers raised to catch the prevailing wind. The weather was great. We had lots of sun, and it was the perfect temperature to enjoy the salty breeze on the water.

Snacks & Drinks

About halfway through the Sitges boat tour, the Captain stopped the boat and brought out drinks and snacks. He offered us our choice of Cava (similar to champagne), water, and beer. He also brought out plates of crackers and potato chips. It was so much fun having some sparkling Cava at sea. We chatted with others, enjoyed the view, and soaked up the sun as the boat bobbed peacefully in the waves.

The Captain offered us more drinks as we cruised back to the port. We disembarked at the marina, thanked our crew, and said goodbye to our new friends. Our Sitges boat tour lasted about 1.5 hours. It was a perfect way to start our first day in Sitges.

There is a lovely little promenade of restaurants that runs along the marina. We were there earlier in the day, and places were just opening for lunch as we left. But it had a nice upscale coastal vibe. I would have loved to have sat down for a meal there.
