The Hyatt Regency Lisbon was my home base during a solo trip to Portugal last year, and while it’s not in the heart of Lisbon, it worked out really well for me. The hotel itself feels modern and relaxed, and the rooftop bar with views of the Ponte 25 de Abril quickly became one of my favorite spots to unwind at sunset.
Even though the Hyatt Regency Lisbon isn’t located right in the historic city center, I found the location a huge plus for this three-day trip. It worked really well and let me see different parts of Lisbon and beyond each day. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I booked two rooms here for our family trip to Portugal this upcoming June.
I actually found getting around from the hotel easy! After checking in, I spent the afternoon exploring Belém. The next day, I took Tram 15E into central Lisbon. And, on my last full day, I took an Uber for a day trip to Sintra. Then on my final morning, getting an early ride to the airport was quick and easy, avoiding the most congested areas of central Lisbon.
In this Portugal travel blog post, I’m sharing my Hyatt Regency Lisbon experience. This includes the location pros and cons, what to expect from the rooms and rooftop bar, and some tips to help you decide if this is the right place to stay for your trip to Lisbon.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon is a modern, waterfront hotel that opened in late 2022. Situated near the scenic Belém district along the banks of the Tagus River, the hotel offers a polished and contemporary stay just outside Lisbon’s historic center.
There’s no debate that the hotel offers a lot! It feels new and modern yet comfortable and inviting. It’s a great Lisbon hotel if you’re a Hyatt fan looking to use points and enjoy Globalist benefits like room upgrades and free breakfast.
That said, the biggest thing to consider is the location, because it’s not located in central Lisbon. This honestly wasn’t an issue for me, but I think it’s important to know what to expect.
One of the things I appreciated most about staying here was how easy it was to get around to vary different places. The Tram 15E stop is just a short walk from the hotel, and Uber rides were quick and affordable. This made it easy to plan both city sightseeing days and a day trip to Sintra from this location.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Location Pros & Cons
One of the biggest factors to consider when booking the Hyatt Regency Lisbon is its location. The hotel sits right along the Tagus River in the Belém area, which gives it a quieter, more relaxed feel than staying in the middle of Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods. That said, it’s not walkable to most of Lisbon’s popular landmarks and neighborhoods, such as Baixa and Alfama.
I loved coming back to a calm, scenic waterfront spot after full days of sightseeing, especially when Lisbon can feel busy and crowded. If you enjoy a slower, more peaceful home base at the end of the day, this location is a big plus.
The hotel is also a really great base for exploring Belém or taking a day trip to Cascais. I didn’t get to visit Cascais, Portugal, on my solo trip last year, but we’ll spend a few nights there this summer before finishing our 18-day trip to Portugal at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon.
Getting around from the Hyatt Regency Lisbon is straightforward. The Tram 15E stop is just a short walk from the hotel. This tram line runs along the river between Belém and central Lisbon, making it easy to hop on and ride in either direction. I also had no issues getting an Uber to Sintra, and it only cost around 25 euros.
That said, the location isn’t for everyone. If your ideal Lisbon stay means stepping out of your hotel and immediately wandering through Alfama’s alleys or being able to walk to Baixa in a few minutes, Hyatt Regency Lisbon may feel a bit removed. You’ll need to rely on transit or rideshares to reach most of Lisbon’s main historic neighborhoods.
If you’re comfortable using trains and Ubers and like the idea of a quieter, scenic base near Belém, this location can actually be a really nice fit for your Lisbon itinerary.
Visiting Belém From Hyatt Regency Lisbon
As I mentioned above, the Hyatt Regency Lisbon is a convenient base for visiting Belém. The easiest way to get there is by taking Tram 15E, which has a stop just a short walk from the hotel. It’s a simple, scenic ride and drops you close to Belém’s top attractions.
I took Tram 15E to visit Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, and of course to stop at Pastéis de Belém. I really enjoyed this area. It was an easy, low-stress way to start exploring Lisbon, especially on a first day when you’re getting your bearings and don’t want to deal with navigating the busier historic neighborhoods right away.
I started at Jerónimos Monastery, then walked along the riverfront and over to Belém Tower. I caught it right at sunset, and it was stunning.
Getting Into Central Lisbon from the Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Getting into central Lisbon from the Hyatt Regency Lisbon is easy, even though the hotel isn’t in the historic center. The Tram 15E runs parallel to the river and is a straightforward way to reach central Lisbon.
If you’re riding Tram 15E into the city, the most convenient stop to get off at is Praça do Comércio, which takes about 20 minutes. This puts you right along the river in the heart of Lisbon with easy access to Baixa and a short walk to Cais do Sodré.
I basically left after breakfast and spent the entire day in central Lisbon, returning to the hotel after dinner. This worked well for me, but it’s worth noting you probably won’t be popping back to your hotel midday unless you factor in transit time.
Since it was just me, it was very doable and let me see a lot. If you are traveling to Lisbon with young kids who need breaks, this may not be ideal for your family.
Day Trip to Sintra From Hyatt Regency Lisbon
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon worked really well as a base for a day trip to Sintra. On my Sintra day, I grabbed an Uber in the morning and found it an easy, low-stress way to get there, without dealing with train transfers or figuring out stations early in the day.
Taking an Uber to Sintra made the logistics of a busy sightseeing day feel much simpler. As I mentioned in my Pena Palace blog post, it’s a good idea to get the first ticketed slots of the day. An Uber was the quickest and most straightforward way for me to get there early in the day.

Day Trip to Cascais From Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Cascais is another easy day trip to pair with a stay at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon. The most straightforward way to get there is to take the train from Belém Station on the Cascais Line, which runs along the coast and offers a really scenic ride.
You can take Tram 15E toward Belém and get off near Belém Station to connect to the Cascais Line. This summer, we’ll be using this route to get from Cascais to the Hyatt Regency Lisbon for our stay.
The train drops you right in the center of Cascais, making it easy to explore the beaches, marina, and town center on foot. This is a simple, no-car-needed day trip option if you want to add a coastal town to your Lisbon itinerary without complicated transit.
Things To Know About the Hyatt Regency Lisbon
So, now that we’ve talked about the location, let’s dig into the rooms! As I mentioned earlier, I booked a regular queen room, but because of my Hyatt Globalist status, I received a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Queen Suite, so that is what you see in all my photos now.
After our stay this summer, I will try to add photos of the two twin rooms where my kids will be staying on our summer trip to Portugal.
Rooms & Suites at Hyatt Regency Lisbon
There are multiple room types available, including standard rooms with either one queen bed or two twin beds, as well as larger suites and apartment-style accommodations.
For our upcoming family trip to Portugal this summer, we booked a room with two twin beds for our two teenagers and a suite for Matt and me, which felt like the perfect setup. The suite layout is well-designed, with separate living and sleeping spaces, and having a laundry washer in the suite was a surprisingly helpful surprise during my stay.
If you’re traveling with family or planning a longer stay, there are also larger suite options and even two and three-bedroom apartment-style rooms that give you more space and flexibility.

Rooftop Bar at Hyatt Regency Lisbon with Bridge Views
The rooftop bar at Hyatt Regency Lisbon was one of my favorite spots at the hotel. The views of the Ponte 25 de Abril stretching across the river are incredible, especially around sunset when the light starts to change over the water. It’s the kind of view that feels very Lisbon without having to fight crowds for a viewpoint.
After full days of sightseeing, I loved coming back here to unwind with a drink and take in the views. The vibe is relaxed and low-key, not overly trendy or loud. When I was there, it was a bit chilly, and the fires were going, adding to the fun ambiance.
If you’re someone who enjoys ending the day with a scenic drink and a few quiet minutes to take it all in, the rooftop bar here is absolutely worth carving out time for. If you’re visiting during a busy time, you’ll likely want to book a time slot in advance.
I have a bunch of photos from this spot, and it was one of those places that looked just as good in person as it does in pictures.
Breakfast & Spa at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon
Breakfast at Hyatt Regency Lisbon was wonderful. I ate there on two mornings, and it’s no surprise that it’s frequently mentioned in reviews as a highlight for most guests. They even had a mimosa bar. You can also enjoy lunch and dinner at the hotel, although I didn’t get a chance to do either since I was out most of each day and in the early evening.
The hotel also offers on-site amenities, including a spa and wellness area. I didn’t get a chance to use it on my last trip, but I’m hoping to book a treatment at their Serenity Spa this summer. It looks dreamy.
Things To Do in Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon’s main landmarks and neighborhoods are easy enough to reach from the Hyatt Regency Lisbon using Tram 15E or a quick Uber, which makes it simple to mix guided tours with wandering on your own.
These are some highlights that fit naturally into a Lisbon itinerary when using this hotel as your home base, many of which I experienced myself last year.

Alfama, São Jorge Castle, and Historic Viewpoints
Alfama is one of Lisbon’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, known for its narrow streets, tiled buildings, and classic viewpoints over the city. Pairing this area with a visit to São Jorge Castle is an easy way to see Lisbon from above and get a sense of the city’s layout.
Baixa and Praça do Comércio
Baixa is Lisbon’s downtown grid, and Praça do Comércio is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks along the river. This area is a good starting point for exploring central Lisbon on foot, with plenty of cafés, shops, and historic streets to wander. It’s easy to reach from the hotel via Tram 15E or Uber on a sightseeing day.
Riding Tram 28 Through Lisbon’s Neighborhoods
Tram 28 is one of the most iconic ways to pass through Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods, connecting areas like Alfama, Graça, and Baixa. It’s a fun way to cover more ground if you’re short on time or want a break from walking. From the Hyatt Regency Lisbon, it’s easy to reach the start of the route using Tram 15E and a short connection.
Belém Landmarks and Riverfront Walks
Belém is one of the easiest areas to explore from this hotel and is home to several of Lisbon’s most famous landmarks, including Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower. Walking along the river here is a nice change of pace from Lisbon’s hillier neighborhoods, and it’s easy to combine a few sights without feeling rushed.
Lisbon Food Tours, Markets, and Fado
Food tours and Fado shows are great ways to experience Lisbon beyond the main landmarks, especially in the evenings. You can pair a food tour with a stop at a local market or end the night with a Fado performance in one of Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods.
Is Hyatt Regency Lisbon a Good Place to Stay in Lisbon, Portugal?
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon is a great fit if you don’t mind using public transit or Uber to reach Lisbon’s main sightseeing areas. The riverside setting, easy access to Belém, and convenient transportation options make it a comfortable place to return to after full days of exploring. If you enjoy ending your days somewhere a little quieter than the historic center, this hotel checks a lot of boxes.
This is especially true if you plan to use Hyatt points, since it’s a Category 4 hotel and offers solid value for free night certificates. Even when paying cash, I think the comfort and location make it worth considering. I also felt genuinely valued as a Hyatt Globalist during my stay. If your travel style is more about stepping outside your door and immediately wandering through Alfama’s alleys or being within a few minutes’ walk of Baixa and Chiado, staying in central Lisbon may be a better fit, especially if you have younger kids and need to take frequent breaks.
I chose to stay here again because the location worked well for my solo trip last year, and it says a lot that I’m choosing to stay here again this summer.
