I am thrilled to be a contributor to The Spouting Threader by Sprouting Threads (more about them here) and this month I want to talk about keeping kids cool! And while of course we want them to be hip I want to actually talk about breezy warm weather styles that will keep them happy as a clam. Here are 5 tips to keep in mind.
Tip #1
Layers – Temperatures vary so much from the time you drop them off at the bus stop to when you pick them up. Layers are their BFF this time of year. Don’t be afraid to let them wear that tank top or romper on these warm spring days! But instead of worrying about an undershirt simply find a couple cardigans or lightweight hoodies / pullovers that they can wear over it. I always recommend making sure to keep the layers on top of the summer clothes and not underneath!
Tip #2
Waterproof shoes – We love wet / dry shoes! Some of our favorites are by Native shoes and saltwater sandals so with so much. This lets them cool off in those creeks that you stumble on during your adventures!
Tip #3
Light as a Feather – Ditch the super thick knits and synthetic fabrics and grab the lightweight cottons. The super cute Little Handprint jumpsuit below (that Abby got in her Spring Sprouting Threads box) is perfectly light while keeping her covered.
Tip #4
Double Duty – I love board shorts for Jake. Especially shorter retro cut ones. They are light and cool plus give him and excuse to get wet! And they add dash of fun to your everyday tee shirts.
Tip #5
White as Day – Go light! Whites and pastels help reflect the sun. Avoid dark colors on those bright sunshiny days.
