Creve Coeur Lake: a hidden gem

The summer we discovered a (hidden to us) gem right here in St. Louis!  And I can only assume that not nearly enough other people know about it because I always expect it to be so much busier.

Creve Coeur Lake (and Park)

Located exactly 30 minutes from our home in Glen Carbon, Illinois this lake offers a scenic network of trails and some beautiful natural flora and fauna.  The adjacent park offers numerous playgrounds and a fun zip line course that Matt and I can’t wait to try out sans kiddos!

While at the lake you can rent out kayaks, canoes or paddle boards through Creve Coeur Lake Rentals.   And we did it all over multiple trips this summer!  I have always wanted to try out the paddle board and the experience was everything that I expected.  Abby even did one too!   Jake loves the kayaks and our whole family fit easily in one canoe.  They are open April though October (weather permitting) and  life jackets and basic instruction provided.  I have to say that I am so looking forward to heading back solo for some paddle boarding once the kids start school!   They also offer bike rentals including quadricycles and also have pull behind trailers.

FACT: Creve Coeur Lake is the largest  natural lake in Missouri.

In collaboration with the Great Rivers Greenway you can also take advantage of the new Creve Coeur Water Trail.  It’s a 6 mile water adventure though lake and up a connecting creek that you can enjoy by kayak, canoe or paddle board.
