On my most recent visit to Italy, I spent a few nights at Cappuccini Resort in Northern Italy’s Franciacorta wine region, and it turned out to be one of those places that truly stays with you. This peaceful hillside retreat overlooks rolling vineyards and is so incredible charming. It’s the kind of place you escape to when you want slow mornings, rich history, and a deep exhale away from the world.

Visit Brescia, Enit.it, and Neos Airlines hosted me on this trip. But, as usual, all opinions and photography are my own.

Staying at Cappuccini Resort in Franciacorta, Italy

During this trip to Europe, I visited Italy’s Brescia province during the annual Franciacorta Festival, a sparkling-wine celebration that brings the region to life with tastings, vineyard events, and specialty wine experiences. Having Cappuccini Resort as my home base made the trip feel balanced. It was fun, yet restorative, and the perfect mix of bubbly festivities and relaxed countryside comfort.

Where is Cappuccini Resort?

Cappuccini Resort is tucked into the hills above the small village of Cologne, in the province of Brescia in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region. Resting on the slopes of Monte Orfano, Cappuccini is surrounded by vineyards and small farms, with winding drives, sweeping views, and the kind of countryside charm that immediately slows your pace.

Despite feeling wonderfully remote, the resort is surprisingly easy to reach. It’s about 30 minutes from both Lake Iseo and the city of Brescia, and roughly an hour from Milan or Bergamo Airport. The best way to explore this region is by car, especially if you plan to hop between wineries and nearby villages, but transfers from nearby train stations are available.

A Historic Monastery Turned Luxury Resort

Cappuccini Resort is housed in what was once a 16th-century Franciscan monastery, and you truly feel that sense of history the moment you arrive. Think stone archways, ivy-covered walls, terracotta roofs, and a quiet cloister that whispers stories from centuries past. However, it wasn’t always like this.

During my stay, the owner, Rosalba Tonelli Pelizzari, showed me some extraordinary before-and-after photos of the renovation that began here in 1988, which she spearheaded when her family purchased the property.

She told us about how she thoughtfully sourced pieces rich in history in their own right. It was kismet when she recovered beautiful doorways from another property that were discarded for something newer and more modern. I was just blown away by this place, knowing how much time and effort went into making it feel old again. I felt lucky to hear her stories.

Rosalba told me how just five workers spent years on these renovations. There was so much work to be done, as it had been sitting empty for around sixty years.   She kept a close watch and was involved in every part of the renovation.

Originally built in 1569, the original chapel and monastery elements have been beautifully restored, creating an atmosphere that feels sacred yet warm. Walking through the gardens in the morning — with the trees swaying in the breeze and soft sunlight touching the ancient stone — was one of my favorite parts of the stay. Everything feels peaceful, deliberate, and deeply connected to nature and heritage. Rosalba even told us how she planted a grove of trees in the same pattern as her own heartbeat.

Tour Cappuccini Resort

If you have the chance, ask her for a tour! You can often find Rosalba at the front desk throughout your stay. We got our tour literally minutes before we departed on the last morning. We went through hidden doors and unknown corridors that led to medieval cellars.

Honestly, my appreciation for this property would not have been the same had I not seen what lay below the main guest area.

Cappuccini Resort: Rooms & Suites

Guest rooms at Cappuccini Resort feel cozy and elegant. They are understated with a nice balance of rustic charm and refined comfort. Expect exposed stone walls, timber beams, earth-toned textiles, and thoughtfully selected furnishings that feel true to the building’s history.

My room overlooked the restaurant’s courtyard and the swimming pool. In the photo below, it’s the window covered in ivy. Additionally, the unique touches, such as room keys with a corded tuft of fabric that you leave in the main room when you are out and about, felt like something out of a novel.

Bathrooms are modern yet timeless. Mine had a nice walk-in shower, but others may have tubs. My bed was surprisingly comfortable, which I was grateful for. If you travel to Europe often, you know that beds can be hit-or-miss. These beds are plush and comfortable, and I really appreciated the nice gel pillow option, which is what I use at home.

Housed in a restored monastery, the rooms are laid out one after another on the first floor, surrounding the cloister. That said, my space felt quiet and private — exactly what you want after a day exploring wineries or wandering countryside roads.

My room was on the second floor, and I was captivated by this spiral stairwell that I used to get there. What a tale these walls could tell!

Dining at Cappuccini Resort

Dining here is an experience in itself. The resort’s signature restaurant, Cucina San Francesco, focuses on seasonal ingredients and regional flavors. Elevated presentations and thoughtful wine pairings showcase the best of Franciacorta. During our stay, the chef prepared us the most delightful vegetarian meal, with an exquisite combination of colors and flavors.

Note that reservations are requested at Cucina San Francesco.

Cappuccini Resort Breakfast

Breakfast is included with your stay and can be eaten in the breakfast room or outdoors. Each day, we were served fresh pastries, homemade cakes, fruit, yogurt, and, of course, perfectly made cappuccinos. I have to say that the mornings here feel leisurely, where you sip your coffee slowly because there’s nowhere else you’d rather be.

Pool, Spa & Wellness at Cappuccini Resort

Cappuccini Resort’s outdoor pool sits on a sun-drenched terrace surrounded by olive trees and fragrant gardens. It’s quiet, peaceful, and incredibly scenic — the kind of place where you bring a book and spend an entire afternoon without realizing it. Golden hour here is stunning, with warm light softening the stone walls and the hills glowing in the distance.

The Cappuccini Resort’s spa is serene and beautifully integrated into the landscape in the foothills below. It offers fitness opportunities, traditional spa services, and a lovely indoor spa pool. I highly recommend making an appointment here just to experience the spa’s water features. Once turned on, a water-therapy sequence plays out as jets activate throughout the spa. You can just sit back and enjoy the water pressure on your back, or just take in the sounds of the water and the dancing light.

Afterwards, enjoy the sauna, steam room, and loungers. The wellness area adds a restorative layer to your stay. And if you relax on the patio, you may even see some friendly kitties.

Hospitality & Atmosphere at Cappuccini Resort

The service at Cappuccini feels warm, personal, and genuinely caring. I never felt rushed. Instead felt the urge to relax a bit more than I am used to. Every interaction with the staff and other guests felt effortless, and it was evident that everyone was grateful to be there. There’s a calm, gracious rhythm to the Cappuccini Resort, which I encountered throughout the Franciacorta region.

Visiting During the Franciacorta Festival

If you can time your stay with the Franciacorta Festival, do it. Wineries host open-house tastings, vineyard picnics, cellar tours, and live music events, and the entire region feels festive and welcoming. I am so grateful that I was given the opportunity to experience this and now share it with you.

Cappuccini’s location made it incredibly easy to explore the Franciacorta area. Most wineries were just a short, scenic drive away. Returning to the resort after a lovely day of tastings made the experience feel balanced and special.

Is Cappuccini Resort Right for You?

Capuccini Resort is perfect for travelers who love quiet luxury, wine country escapes, historic properties, wellness-focused travel, and slow-paced European countryside experiences. It’s ideal for couples, and anyone looking to unwind, recharge, and savor Italy at a slower rhythm.

If you’re looking for nightlife or a bustling scene, this isn’t that, which is exactly what makes it so special. The other thing to note is that this area is not as walkable as other popular tourist destinations throughout Italy. However, in addition to cars, I also saw many people biking, which is very popular in the Franciacorta region.

Book Your Stay at Cappuccini Resort

My stay at Cappuccini Resort was restorative, inspiring, and genuinely unforgettable. I am not exaggerating one bit when I say that I felt like I was one of the main characters in a novel turned movie set in the Italian countryside, on the verge of a major self-discovery. What I found was a beautiful blend of history, nature, gastronomy, and hospitality, all set against the backdrop of one of Italy’s most underrated wine regions.

Whether you’re planning a Franciacorta wine weekend, pairing the area with Lake Iseo or Milan, or simply craving a peaceful countryside escape, Cappuccini Resort is worth traveling for. I already can’t wait to return and say hello to the resident cat, fittingly named Rosé.
