I am so excited to write this article because glamping at a goat farm was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had such a great time at Goat House Farm and think this is something that everyone should try at least once! So if you are looking for a great family-friendly Florida glamping experience, this post is for you!
Ahhh heck, who am I kidding? We are going to go back as often as possible because it’s only 90 minutes from our home in Dothan, Alabama and the kids loved it. But next time we are bringing our friends with us. And you should do it too! With options to bring your own tent or glamp in the ones provided it’s an easy, affordable experience that you need to put on your summer bucket list!
Glamping at A Goat Farm
First of all, I want to explain how I stumbled upon this amazing place. I owe it all to Hipcamp and have a big blog post up from last year with all of the details. Think camping meets airbnb. Click here to read that post. And if you are new to Hipcamp make sure to use my Refer – A -Friend link to sign up because it gets you $10 toward your first booking and then I get a $10 credit in my account which means I can go back and play with the goats again sooner. And even if you aren’t in the South it’s fun to see what’s happening in your neck of the woods. So, whether you are looking for glamping in Florida or anywhere in the USA, some of the best camp sites can be found there.
Goat House Farm
So that is how I discovered Goat House Farm a couple of months back and was able to take the kids for a two-night stay in May. We “glamped” for just $40 a night and I will share more about that below but wanted to take a minute to tell you about Goat House Farm before I get into all of that. We really enjoyed our time there and it’s such a hidden gem. And as a working farm and small business that relies heavily on campers and volunteers to get by day-to-day, they have been affected by Covid-19 and I want to help spread the word as much as possible!
About Goat House Farm
Goat House Farm is located just southwest of Tallahassee, Florida, and only about 20 minutes to both Florida State University and the famous Wakulla Springs, making it a great little hub for activities. Although, it was hard to get my kids to even leave the farm for a few hours to explore because they were having such a great time. Nested up against the beautiful Lake Talquin State Forest, the farm is conveniently located on the Florida Big Bend Scenic Byway.
Goat House Farm is a FarmHer owned micro-farm founded in 2015 with only 4 goats and 4 chickens and has grown immensely in that small time. Although their commitment to sustainable and compassionate practices hasn’t changed one bit. They offer a variety of agritourism opportunities including day visits, camping, and even goat yoga!
And most of the time they have three or four longer-term residents who are working on the farm (workcamp) and help out on the farm in exchange for hookups for their RV. This part fascinated me because I think there is a part of every one of us who wonders what it would be like to do something like that at some point in our lives. Cindy came down from Illinois and when I saw her Key West Parrothead license plate holder I knew I would like her. We chatted about what led her there and it’s a beautiful thing to hear what charts someone’s course.
Skip is down from New Hampshire, a snowbird who stuck around into Spring this year. And while I don’t know Melissa, the owner’s, story I had to smile when I saw a tee with Follow Your Dreams written on it hanging from her clothesline. I could tell that these animals mean everything to her and she is so happy to share her passions with visitors just like us.
Visiting Goat House Farm & Glamping at a Goat Farm
I mentioned that I found Goat House Farm on Hipcamp but she is also listed on Airbnb as well! There are options to stay in the glamping tents, bring your own tent or stay in one of the small cottages on site. You can click here to see her airbnb listings which are the same as what you will find on Hipcamp.
Visit Goat House Farm For A Day
If you want to visit for the day you can get more information on their website here. There is not a fee but please leave a donation if you can! My kids loved helping out while we camped and now that I know that they are fully capable of scooping up poop and wheelbarrowing it to the dumping spot I feel like the possibilities are endless for me back at home. The future looks bright. LOL.
Camping and Glamping at Goat House Farm
There are a few ways to enjoy an overnight stay at Goat House Farm and enough accommodations for you to come to visit with another family as well.
You can Bring Your Own Tent camp for $25 (2 spots available), you can Glamp for $45 (2 tents available) or you can stay in The Coop for $50 or Tiny Cottage for $70. There are photos of all of the accommodations on their listings on Hipcamp and Airbnb but since we did the glamping tents I want to tell you more about that!
Glamping at A Goat Farm
Glamping at Goat House Farm was well worth the $40. The tent is already set up with two queen tatami beds and fresh linens. There is even a nightstand in there with a lantern! Outside the tent, there are camp chairs, a rug, a fire pit, and a small table. Now, keep in mind you are still camping but not having to haul all of that stuff was priceless in my book!
There is a small rustic bathhouse with a compost toilet and a trough-style shower. Adjacent to the bathhouse is a sink for fresh water and dishes. Goat House Farm also has a communal area with a fire pit, chairs, table (complete with string lights), grills, and more. And they are generous enough to let guests into their workshop / common room that has sofas, laundry, a fridge, microwave, tv, coffee pot, and kettle. Cheers for more stuff that I don’t have to bring!
And I found it fitting that nestled on the bookshelf was a worn copy of Eat, Pray, Love.
Inside the common area, you can even purchase a t-shirt that says “I Hit the Hay at Goat House Farm” or a coffee mug. There is a cash box and it’s on the honor system which is something I noticed and loved while visiting Gulf County, Florida which isn’t too far away either. You can also buy fresh eggs, goat’s milk, and honey. They have several working bee boxes on the farm!
Also, as I mentioned before, the farm is on Lake Talquin, and you can walk down to see the water or even borrow a kayak and take a little float. If you can catch it at sunset make sure you do! It was magical. But, bring bug spray with you!
If you asked the kids what their favorite parts here it would be feeding Houdini (the pig) eggs and also going on real egg hunts in the coop at night. They found two dozen of them and Cindy was so kind as to help the kids help. One of my favorite memories was hearing them get up at the crack of dawn to “go help” and when I came out I saw them in the morning light which showed magically through the dust. I mean these photos don’t even do it justice!
Abby also loved all of the farm cats and Jake had a fun time chasing that peacock around. It did finally show us its feathers on the last morning but of course, I didn’t have my camera with me!

About a Million Photos of us Glamping at a Goat Farm
So, the main reason that it took me so long to write this post about glamping at a goat farm is that I took over 300 photos. It was so cool though! Anyway, the story of my life is that I take way too many and then have to take a bunch of time to weed through and edit them. Does anyone else do this? So, I think I whittled it down to like 50 and I didn’t want to leave any out. But in my opinion, photos are just as important as words when telling a story so I am going to share them there!
I hope you enjoy and please let me know here in the comments if this sounds like something you would like to do. And let’s help support Goat House Farm by spreading the word and sharing this post!
