So, the kids would have gone back to school last week but instead their first day was Monday with an ecology outing at Crystal Cove State Park.
This summer Matt and I made the decision to home school Abby and Jake. There were so many factors involved in our decision and in the end I followed my heart with what I think is best for all of us. We have spent the last couple months easing into it and it the kids are doing so well.
Prior to moving here we have been spoiled with top notch public schools and neighborhoods and if you asked me six months ago if I would ever home school I would have probably said “Heck. No.” I had no idea how evolved it has become!
Living in California now we have access to some incredible opportunities through our chosen publicly funded charter school who even give us a very generous allotment of funds to purchase our own curriculum and learning opportunities. The kids have a teacher who helps us with anything we need and go to class one day a week for a few hours. They are taking part in a weekly STEM academy and have a ton of great field trip opportunities each month throughout Southern California. The best part is that there are a ton of ways for them to socialize with other children of like-minded families.
Myself, Matt, Abby and Jake are already looking forward to this new adventure!
