Mark Twain once said:
“Don’t let your boy’s schooling interfere with his education.”
This is one of my favorite quotes because we believe that everyday experiences both extravagant and mundane help shape the future of our children. While traditional schooling is obviously important I believe that with the increasing role technology plays in education our “real life” experiences are as important as ever.
This Summer I encourage you to try to find as many opportunities in your ordinary days to teach your children something.
Last Thursday we headed out to the Farmer’s Market. Places like this provide an excellent environment to teach your kids about money. Get cash, let them pay and make change. Most of the produce is sold by weight. This all provides real life experience with math! Also, talk about the foods. Try something new. Find a fun recipe to make together using what they bought! Find the lady who makes the Goat Milk Soap. I bet she will tell them a little bit about what shes does. Same with the nice man who carves those figurines out of wood.
Our next stop was Home Depot. I wanted to get some flowering plants to put in the hard but of course we live in the desert. Abby helped me read the tags. We had no idea that Bougainvillea is a low water plant. One of my favorites too! Jake helped me find some appropriate size small pots for us to replant succulents into.
We got home and played for the rest of the afternoon. Abby is into her hula-hoop! Think back to the fun games of your childhood to get them moving. Four square! Hopscotch. Jump Rope. Popsicle.
Work Hard. Play Hard. Never Stop Learning.

This company is committed to education and even offers school fundraising. Abby and Jake don’t wear uniforms but I know that many of your children do. I love these cute and comfy outfits on them.
