“I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams…”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
It’s crazy that we now live in the desert. The one with one S. I remember a little gimmick that I learned in a grade school spelling lesson. Dessert has two Ss because everyone wants two helpings of it. Desert has only one because once is enough.
I guess sometime there will be a day when we tire of the desert but for ow it has really excited us! At our last home we walked on the sidewalk though the neighborhood to access a system of paved jogging and biking trails spanning miles upon miles. Now, we walk down the street to a dead end with a worn dirt path that spans a few feet before multiplying off into a network of worn dirt bike trails, visible until the next windstorm. No one way to go and laden with hills and giant rocks, tumbleweed and an occasional Joshua Tree. Even the trash out there has a story to tell. Apparently the desert is where vacuums, single socks and shopping carts go to die. LOL
We have been walking over there everyday and just wandering. Matt and Abby dream of finding gold out there. Looking forward to mornings spent metal detecting and digging. Jake loves to climb and has dubbed himself a mountaineer! I am learning to let him be wild out there. I am sure the desert can teach lessons of it’s own. We know for sure that the Cacti can!
