So, tomorrow is a new year. 2015. A fresh start. ย Full of resolutions. ย A new story to write. ย But, I want to remind you that 2015 is a full year and change takes time. ย We all have the greatest ambitions and a new contagious energy but as with most every year past that will fizzle in a few weeks. ย They should be called January resolutions. Often we bite off way more than we can chew. ย It’s hard to make major changes in one night (especially coupled with champagne and sweets). ย So, I want to share with you my thoughts on how to achieve those goals that you are setting for the new year.
It starts with the word YEAR. ย That’s 12 months my friends. ย You can do so much in 12 months. ย 52 weeks. 365 days.
Then add the word STORY. ย This is a blank start to the year and a story to write. ย But how have you always been tought to write? ย This goes back to 3rd grade. ย Create an outline.
The PLAN
Start writing down all of your resolutions, goals, plans for 2015. ย There are 12 months. ย Create 12 main resolutions. ย And if you only have 8 that is ok! ย Repeating them can do no harm. ย Or skip a month every season. ย Or take two months per goal. ย It’s your year baby! Organize these kind of based on the time of year. ย Or by what is an immediate priority. I did Adventure in the summer. ย My favorite time of year to get out and explore! ย I did digital organization in September. ย With some free time once the kids are back in school. ย Set yourself up to succeed.
Here are mine.
January –ย The month of me – ย My mind. ย My body. ย My soul.
February – Love and marriage. – Deepen the relationship. ย More laughing.
March – Declutter / Organize. Top to bottom.
April – ย It starts at home. More cooking. ย Having kids help. ย Family roles.
May – Friendships. ย Appreciate them. ย Plan a couple visits. ย Schedule coffee.
June – Adventure. ย Hiking. Festivals. ย Camping. ย New parks.
July – Old wounds. ย Lost ties.ย ย Reach out. Reconnect. Life is short.
August – Little people. ย Spend time with each kid before school. ย 1 on s with each parent.
September – Digital catchup. Organize photos/documents. Backup.
October – Giving. ย Give some time. ย Volunteer. ย Send a couple surprise gifts.
November – The lost art. Write letters. ย Send cards and kid’s pictures.
December – Reflection. ย Enjoy. Whatever happened this year, Life is still good.
So, now what?
You are not done yet. ย Get a planner. ย My sister gave me the cute one below for Christmas. ย Then do this.
(1) On the monthly pages write your resolution really big at the top.
(2) Pick a day of the week that you have time. ย I pick Sunday. ย Write a smaller goal or idea on each of those. ย All based on your main goal!
(3) ย Go through the weekly pages. ย Write down some encouraging words in several random spots. ย “You are awesome.” ย “Keep going.” ย “The journey is the destination.” or maybe some song lyrics. ย Or some other motivations like gasp “screw that checkout lady who asked if you were pregnant when you are just fluffy”. Whatever you want. ย And wherever you want.
(4) You are done. ย And how you have your 2015 Life Planner. ย Now, this isn’t a planner, planner. ย No soccer practices. ย No eye appointments. ย It’s all about you.

Get ‘er done
Tomorrow is January One. ย Open to the first weekly page. ย Write in that month’s resolution and the weekly goal at the top of the page. ย Each day you can check in. ย With your feelings. ย Accomplishments. ย What you weigh. ย A meal you made. ย Curses and scribbles. ย Whatever you want.
Do it every day. Or whenever you can. ย What have you created? ย Well, you might have seen one of these before. ย It’s a shhh… diary.
Then, when you get to the next week – REPEAT with the next sub goal. ย And continue all year.
Build upon each other. ย What you accomplished in January carry on until February. ย Let’s see how many of your goals that you can accomplish and maintain by this time next year.
You have 365 days.
Ready. Set. ย Go.
