A Long Run…

So, ever since my cross country days in high school I have had a marathon in the back of my mind. ย Specifically, a rock and roll one. ย Why? ย Because I love music and I love running. ย But, in moderation. ย I never really go past 5-8 miles on my runs these days.

Still, for some reason I still can’t shake that desire.

Fast forward to today. While it’s no full marathon, I am officially signed up for the Rock and Roll Half Marathon this October! ย It’s here in Saint Louis and I am excited to cross this off my bucket list!

I started training last week and have 6 weeks until race day! This just feels like the perfect timing. ย With the kids in school full and part time I actually have free time again to go out on long runs. Alone. ย Without pushing 40 lbs of kids. Or waking up at the crack of dawn. ย So, in a way I kind of feel like this is a chance for me to do something for myself. ย To claim some Sarah back. ย And I am anxious and excited!

So, let’s chat! ย Have any of you ran half or full marathons? ย Any fun tips? ย Are any of you guys thinking of doing one? ย Are you trying to get some YOU back now that the kids are in school?

  1. I want to take up running too and prepare myself for my very first 5k in late Oct. I’m such a newbie that I don’t even have a good running shoe. Any do you recommend?

  2. I ran my first half marathon, Rock the Parkway (KC) in April! I am crazy enough to run my next half in October, the Kansas City Half. It took a lot of time away for me to train last time and I had one kiddo at home almost full time. My husband wasn’t the most supportive at that time. This time around with both kids in school I can hammer out my runs and have a treadmill at home that I can access on the tough days. Best of luck, it’s totally overwhelming and awesome when you cross that finish line! PS, jelly belly magic beans for energy, a must!

  3. Hi! My husband and I actually did the rock n roll marathon in San Diego! We did all 26.2 miles ๐Ÿ™‚ I was actually pretty darn proud of myself being that I have never been a “runner”. While in training here in Louisiana, with the leukemia society we never ran more than 20 miles. I remember being between 3-10 miles for most of my training. I know you will do awesome! Best of luck! Any questions. Let me know! We actually had lots of “goo” for our runs!!

  4. I did the Denver Rock N Roll last October, it was a lot of fun. Six weeks isn’t a lot of time to train, but if you have a running back ground you’ll do great! Have fun!
