I’m still shopping.

Hey friends!  So, there was a little confusion with my starting a new blog and leaving behind NewDayNewDeals.  I want to clarify…

I’m still shopping.

I love shopping!  The new blog will still have some shopping aspect to it but I want it to be more about actual shopping.  Not just buying.  I felt like the deals were getting out of control.  It felt toxic.  It was excess.  Greedy.  Entitled.  People (myself included) were just buying buying buying all the time.  It totally took the fun out of shopping!  I want to focus on shopping for things that I love for the kids but also for myself and my home.   This includes things that are full price as well as on sale.

Here are my thoughts:

I love sales.  There is a time and a place for them at the end of the season or over holidays, etc.  Sales are fun to shop and grab things that you didn’t get during the regular season or grab the next size in something you know you love.

I think I hate deals.  Deals are the seemingly urgent, impulsive and often excess purchases.  Years ago a deal was a fun occasional find.  These days it’s like DEALS, DEALS EVERYWHERE.  In your email.  Your Facebook.  Your mailbox.  With these deals came such a crazy emotional spectrum.  People got a high when they snagged a bunch of stuff.  A big low when they missed something they can’t live without.  (PS If you can’t live without it then you should probably buy it full price)  Then followed with guilt when it arrives or heaven forbid your order get cancelled.  It just felt out of control.  It was bringing me down on a daily basis.    There seemed to be zero respect in the deal world for companies that were getting taken advantage of.

I remember cringing so bad when last Fall an employee only promo code got leaked for Aden & Anais.  People were posting it and sharing it anywhere and everywhere with no second thought about where it came from or that maybe it wasn’t meant for them.  When Aden & Anais cancelled orders people were leaving some jaw dropping posts on their Facebook wall.  Others were demanding they ‘do the right thing’ and ship their orders.  I was appalled at the entitled behavior that I saw.  I never want to be a part of unethical or entitled shopping.  This hunt for ‘promo codes’ is just crazy.  I was overwhelmed with hundreds of people asking me for ‘codes’ each week.  I only post codes that a company gave me directly though their affiliate program, email list or social media.  Ones intended for me to share.  A promo code is just that.  A promotion.  If a company is giving you a code they will email it to you, post it to social media, have it posted on their site or distribute it through an affiliate.  If you have to literally ‘hunt’ for a code then it probably isn’t intended for you in the first place.  And don’t get me started on the blatant taking advantage of website glitches in pricing and then whining when your order gets cancels or oversells.  <ok, rant over>

So, that’s it.  I am shopping.  Our Little Life Style will share things that I am buying or bought as well as some sales that I shop.  But I needed to get away (and get away FAST) from this deal world.

The wasted sense of urgency surrounding them was just something that I didn’t want to be a part of anymore.   No one  is entitled to a good deal.   Buy what you love and love what you buy.

I mean ask yourself this.

Would you rather pay full price for something that you love or half price for something that you don’t?

Remember, that it is all about balance!

And PS: How cute is Jake?!?

  1. I understand what you mean- sometimes I get wrapped up in the thrill of purchase- and I’d prefer to just buy the things I love– it’s not always easy 🙂
