So… I am on a roll and catching up on some family fun time blogging. ย  So, lets jump back to the weekend before last and

that one day we spent $48 on fudge.

Yep. ย $48 on sweet delicious fudge. ย This would all be good except for that one day I spent $25oo to lose 30 lbs. ย  That story is still coming mainly because it is just getting started. ย And no… I am not having surgery. ย Just paying people to get my ass in gear. ย Slightly cheaper than surgery. ย Barely.

Anyway. ย The fudge. ย It all started when I heard about the Strange Folk Festival and how it was going to be held at Union Station this year. ย They boasted booze, all day bands and 2 floors chalk full off fun handmade goodies. ย Like a real life version of Etsy meets a frat party. ย With your kids. ย  What do we have to lose???

So, I put Abby in a nice flower child skirt + vintage top and asked Jake to help me pick out something ridiculously awesome for him. ย  He grabbed this 1987 deadstock European vintage button up and I was like HECK YEAH kid. ย  I mean it’s called STRANGE FOLK and is there any better occasion to wear that?

Vroom. Vroom. ย Here we come.

Our enthusiasm was quickly halted when the 30 minute drive ended up taking an hour and 20 minutes because some genius thought that it would be fun to bring the main bridge across the Mississippi River down to one lane when the once next to it was also closed. ย One grumpy husband and 3 people that have to pee later we made it. ย  This is going to be great.

Oh shit. ย What do you mean that I am the only one in the family that likes drinking beer and browsing handmade arts and crafts on a Saturday morning? ย The moaning and groaning ensues until we suddenly see some guy behind a short wall of Plexiglas screaming out that he has got some fudge and is handing out free samples. ย  Abby pointed and squealed. ย  Jake doesย whatever Abby does. My kids are in and here we stand at The Fudgery for what will be the longest 30 minute razzle and dazzle display ever. ย No there are no pictures. ย If any adultย even made a move or answered a phone call this guy made you don an apron and get back there as part of the spectacle. ย  The kids loved it! ย It was actually fun to watch how excited Abby was. ย And she even answered a question right and won a prize! ย And by prize this is what I mean…

Little Girl! ย You win a special deal. ย Buy 4 piecesย of fudge and get 3 free!“.

Winner Winner Sugar Dinner.ย  She was thrilled and Matt and I made our way to the counter and they selected 7 flavors from the menu and Matt pays. ย I caught a glimpse and holy fudge… it hadย rang up to a total of $48.67. ย  Seriously. ย  I was imagining nice little pieces of fudge. ย Not several pounds of fudge. ย You win sneaky fudge man. ย Well played.

And…. for the rest of the day guess got stuck carrying the big win? ย Me. ย Plusย the 8 bath bombs that I bought because that was the only thing I could really look at in peace while everyone went to the bathroom. ย  The rugratsย made some super cute dream catchers and after the fastest loop ever around the place, we sat outside and ate some grub and then we went home. ย With our big bag of fudge.

Half of it is in the freezer. ย One big cube of butter pecan is sitting here next to meย as I am wondering why we keep on doing things like this. ย I mean is it easier to just go solo? ย I would have probably had a good time. ย But there is just a huge part of me that wants to take the kids to every single place there is. ย I want them to experience all kinds of people. ย All kinds of hobbies. ย And all kinds of fudge. ย  LOL.

The thing is that we never know which memories are going to stick with them. ย But I do know that they soak something in. ย And they really are my favorite people. ย Mr. Fudge man. ย Not so much.

And the best part is that we double fested that day. ย Everyone napped and then we rang in the evening at the Art Festival here in Edwardsville.
